The saga of Mary's Statue!

Blessed Mother Mary was next to Jesus while He was on the Cross, why not have the statue next to Jesus in the church.

I’ve been in the Anglican church all my life and have never been in a parish with a lady chapel lol…

perhaps in massive cathedrals etc…maybe?? I’ve never seen one in a normal everyday church…

Really??? A lifelong belief shattered…There was a very small one in the nearest Episcopal church, but that was closed. It is now a pentecostal church of some kind… I just realized that I have no idea what they did with her!!! It was only a very small statue. Maybe a parishioner took her home? Or maybe she ended up in a Catholic church.
I never thought of this before…I would have taken her myself, before leaving her to the pentecostals!!

You’ve given me yet another reason to pay a visit to my local Anglican Church. I peeped in the other day and it certainly looks beautiful - more so than many Catholic Churches.

But a little empty Somehow the Catholic churches round here ALWAYS have at least a largeish handful of people inside just praying - never mind whether or not there’s a Mass going on or anything.

Anyways, the Anglos have Morning and Evening prayer every day - should check it out some time :yup: I’ll report back on it when I do!

oh yeah, usually the statue or other artwork was donated at great expense by some parishioner, and they can’t entirely get rid of it for fear of offending relatives, but like other personal preference items, the whims of whoever is in charge come into play. I campaigned for years for a large crucifix for our CCD gathering space, and finally got one that had been in a back room, a donation from a wealthy parishioner for a former chapel (now a conference room). It was too big for that space and ripping the panelling, perfect for my space, and the family is happy because it is once more on view, and it really is a beautiful piece.

our bishop has received over the years dozens of icons, paintings and statues of Our Lady, to whom he has a particular devotion, but has no place for all of them in his small home and smaller office. He dedicated one large diocesan meeting room as the “Madonna Room” and most of them are on display there, a real art gallery, very beautiful display.

:coffeeread: If the statue is big enough; and they decide to get rid of it; you could lay it down in the back of a pickup truck in the winter to give the truck more traction in the snow…

Not at all - just a bit of friendly nosey parkering If you want, I can wear my rosary beads like a necklace so people know I’m Catholic upfront

lol, they’d probably not recognise rosary beads lol wear a mantilla veily thing lol lol just kidding… I’ll keep you posted when I find out what’s happening with the statue lol.
