Hello all, Sal from Chicago here again! So anyways, one of my sons is in a difficult spot regarding his spirituality. He is a Homosexual man in a happy marriage and he has my utmost support. My wife and I have had openly Gay friends since the early 70s when we met in college, and it has never been an issue with us. I’m not here to debate anyone’s religious opinions on that subject, though my son is losing his faith in Spirituality. I’m not going to totally try and change his mind, because it’s his decision. But Saints jewelry have always been significant in my family. I still wear my St Anthony and St Gennaro pendants, that I’ve had since birth (1956).lol I want to buy him a gold Saint pendant, one with meaning of acceptance for all. I know that St Anthony technically represents that, though he already has that and St Christopher. He loves jewelry, so I wanted to see if I could restore some of his faith; that he is loved and accepted by our family and friends. So what Saints would you recommend? Thank you

A gold Miraculous medal.

EDIT: From the webz:
" Words from the vision form an oval frame around Mary: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” Mother — Her open arms, the “recourse” we have in her. Immaculate — The words, “conceived without sin.”
Mary is the primary spiritual “force” which leads to faith in Christ. Thus,a medal dedicated to her, and associated with miracles, might be appropriate.

Maybe a huge gold clock medallion like a 80s hip hop artist.lol

I just thought that a significant saint pendant, with the symbolism of acceptance would be a nice gift for him. A saint that maybe is not often recognized. Like I said, jewelers is big in our family.

Not a medal, but a powerful prayer when offered with faith, which you can offer for his sake:
The Memorare

"Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence,
I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother;
to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Thank you so much, I am going to read up on those Saints! His husband comes from a Baptist family in Missouri and has been shunned/banned from his family for being Gay. Only his mother and sister came to their wedding and stay in touch with him, though his father, grandfathers, brother and church in Missouri totally disowned him, and publicly in their church too! I myself just returned to the Catholic Church and everyone in our church is so accepting of my son. It made me feel guilty for pulling my kids out of CCD prior to their communions, due to the priest insisting on me giving the church a large portion of my salary.lol I just realized that Catholicism is more than repetitive mass or big business, it’s One of the few denominations that have kept to their origins and the message of Christ. With that being said, I find the Saints fascinating and that they symbolize Catholicism in an individualistic way. Growing up as an altar boy, I was bored out of my mind and dreaded mass. Then as a grown family man, I dreaded Sunday Mass; then the priest asking for a portion of my scharole was the icing on the cake.lol

My grandmother used to say those prayers in Italian daily; you’re being back memories! As an elderly widow, she went to church literally everyday with her sister, which was a short walk from her Apartment in Chicago.

Perhaps a patron saint of your son’s chosen career, or favorite hobby?

I’m happy to read this - that the Catholics are accepting, I mean. Obviously I’m not happy that the Baptist man has been shunned by his family.

I mentioned the Saint Jerome to him, years ago when he began his career as a history professor at a University. Not as a gift, but I was just like, “ohhh St. Jerome over here!” “Congrats kiddo!” He claimed that St. Jerome was too by the book to be compared to him.aha I laughed and was actually surprised that he knew a bit about Saint Jerome, for I pulled my kids out of the church when they were young. My kids a smart man though.aha

If he wants a saint who went against convention, then St. Francis of Assisi is the best one.

Perhaps ask your son which saints he likes? He seems like he may be quite familiar with them.
