In the poem “To the Sacred Heart”, the authoress St.Therese of Lisieux wrote:
“There, too, to come to her the Saviour deigned,”
Please explain “the Saviour deigned”.

Synonyms for “deign” include stooped, condescended, consented, deemed worthy, patronized,

In the context of prayers, it probably is a focus on the disparity between God and mere creatures such as ourselves. In the wisdom and love of the Most Holy Trinity, the Word of God became flesh, one of us. It seems that the synonyms stooped, consented, rather than condescended or patronized would be most appropriate to the meaning in prayer.

To “deign” is to do something that is below your dignity. God is humbling Himself to come into our hearts at Holy Communion. He deigned to come to earth, become man, and suffer and die for us.
