He had much property, but then when in church he heard the words of the Gospel, “Go sell what you own and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven” (Mark 10: 21), he believed these words were being spoken to him, he gave away all his possessions. Then he went and lived a life of prayer and penance in the desert. For years he lived alone in this life, but then crowds of people came to him for his great wisdom and guidance. Since then, he has been recognized as a great saint, who left his mark on faithful men and the Church.
