Are we not compelled to take action now against this? Please help me.
I think great saints of the church, St. Francis and Mother Teresa, have given us direction on our first course of action, from which all other action must follow.
first is conformity with the heart of Christ through worship and adoration.
this enables us to see Christ in all the unfortunate and threatened: lepers, AIDS victims, the unborn, the helpless, the destitute, mothers carrying a pregnancy that they regard as a personal danger or threat, all the “little ones” Christ commends to our care.
When we see with the eyes and heart of Christ we then see our further direction, the actions we should take in our personal lives, political decisions and activism, exposition and exhortation, the works of mercy etc.
For instance, we change our own mode of living to respect life. Beginning with the care of our own body and soul, and that of our family and those entrusted to our care, we treat life as precious.
We refuse to cooperate in businesses, civic activities, etc. which promote the culture of death, insofar as we are aware of them and are able. We educate ourselves on the political and social issues involved, and do not remain in vincible ignorance of Church teaching of God’s will in these matters.
We support insofar as possible, without neglecting our primary duties, with our time and other resources, pro-life initiatives in our own community and nation. it is our duty to find out what these are. Each diocese has a pro-life office or contact, and this is the place to begin.
Those protesters, usually few in number, who pray regularly outside abortion clinics already know the first line of defense, which is prayer for the babies, the mothers, and all those who enable this offense which cries out to heaven for vengeance ot continue. Our goal is conversion of the minds and hearts of those who actively and passively further and promote the culture of death, directly or indirectly. This begins with prayer, and relies on prayer, constant, public and private, but also involves use of all the resources of modern communication and politics, by those with talent to do so, with support of those who can and should support them.
Judie Brown at the EWTN website, under Catholic Q&A, if you search for her answers, lists several good pro-life links to help us in the education and awareness process. begin with your own parish and diocese and connect with the pro-life activists in your area. I recommend your first line of action and education be thoroughly Catholic, because we cannot speak for the methods and goals of other organizations.
