I believe in the sanctity of the confessional.
On the other hand, there are some heinous crimes that need to be reported.
Those who have victimized others should not be allowed to receive absolution, unless they report what they have done to the authorities.
I do not want priests to go to jail for not reporting heinous crimes.
On the other hand, I do not want those who commit these crimes to seek absolution and then benefit from the seal of the confessional.
It is a tough issue. There is not easy answer.
But peace can only come through justice.

I have a question, maybe two/three, in regards the auricular confessional, and am just looking for clarification on them.

[To the OP:] Is there any Bible texts that are referenced in regards this “seal of confession” that a Catholic priest refers to as a matter of religious faith, in other words, are there any Bible texts that would demonstrate this “seal of confession” or give an example of such in sacred writ?

[To the OP:] Are there any instances in which the “seal of confession” may be violated, or have exception, and likewise, is there a Biblical text or example that is generally cited as foundational?

[To general participants:] Does the auricular confessional booth, or even area, remind anyone of the sanctuary of Moses, where there was a central structure, with a divided compartment, with a curtain/vail between the Most Holy place, wherein was God’s Throne, the Ark (the Seat where the Presence of God sat), and the Holy place where the other person was?

As for the first, no idea. We , being Catholics don’t just rely on Sacred Scripture . We have Sacred Tradition too.
We must also remember the secrecy of the Early Church was in a climate of persecution amd murder. If you were Christians and not following pagan customs, you were killed before the 4th Century and Council Of Nicea

I’m not the OP, but I can answer that the Seal is a discipline. In early Church for example, Confession was in public in front of the congregation for some sins. This CA article has a lot more about the history and what not. What the Early Church Believed: Confession | Catholic Answers

The Seal is very important though. As Catholics, we believe Confession is the ordinary way for the forgiveness of sins. As such, making sure people can Confess is very important. If people risk their eternal salvation because they were afraid of getting reported, that’s a failure on the Church’s part bexause the salvation of souls is her business. With the Seal, a penitent can know their Confession will stay private. And that helps people be willing to Confess and receive God’s forgiveness. So while the Seal could technically be dispensed with, doing so would be a horrible idea.

Again I’m not the OP. To my knowledge, the only case a priest could mention something they learned from a Confession would be to get permission to lift an excommunication.
