The Second Pope

My mom told me there was a document that peter wrote when he and st. Paul left somewhere… and that in that document, Peter wrote leaving Linus in charge until his return. Then Peter died? and Linus stayed in charge… as a pope? Is this how it happened? I don’t know the whole story.

Also, where is this document? Is it available for the public to read ?

If such an apostolic document existed, no doubt it would have found a place in the Bible.

St. Irenaeus, writing about A.D. 189, said, “The blessed apostles [Peter and Paul], then, having founded and built up the Church [of Rome], committed into the hands of Linus the office of the episcopate.” (Irenaeus, Against Heresies 3, 3, 3.)
