I have just finished reading this which a friend gave to me:

‘The Secret of Mary’ St Louis De Montfort.

I was deeply moved by these writings and have felt drawn to make the Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

Has anyone else done this and how have you found living this way in Jesus?

Thank you in advance

I have made this consecration. The 33 day preparation for consecration is a bit grueling but worth it. I have found it a bit hard in putting the consecration into practice. It just isn’t very clear as to how to go about doing it. That is why I am in the process of reading other books on this spirituality. Some other famous people who are consecrated with this method are Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa and all the nuns of the Missionaries of Charity, and Father Corapi and his order. There are more but those are who I know off the top of my head. I am reading the book The Reign of Jesus Through Mary which gives some ways to live out the consecration. I also recommend you read the book True Devotion to Mary, which is also by De Montfort and explains the Devotion in more detail than Secret of Mary. Hope this helps.

God Bless

We are about half way through the consecration process. We are doing it with a small group under the direction of one of our parish priests. After the 33 days are over, he will be available to assist us with questions or concerns.

I’m very grateful for this information. The Sister in charge of my formation has the larger book you mention ‘True Devotion to Mary’ so I’ll ask her if I can lend the book from her.

I hope you will come back to this thread when you have read more so you can explain the devotion more fully to me and anyone else who reads this thread.

After reading this small book ‘The Secret of Mary’ I found it to be very compatible with my spirituality of ‘Living Prayer’ and it only makes complete sense to me to live out my life as a prayer consecrated to Jesus through Mary and act with Mary in all I do as a prayer. Totus Tuus

Thank you again.🙂

I read The Secret of Mary hmm about 10 years ago and it made a powerful impression on me. The consecration I made was the Militia Immaculata consecration, St. Maximilian Kolbe. I have found a really beautiful photo frame for the pic from the consecration, has a rose and a rosary twining around the frame (part of the ceramic design), but I have to find the pic now!!!

The book was a great benefit to me because in spite of growing up Catholic, I didn’t really know Mary, and I got to know her, and have a very tender and true relationship with her. She is a powerful prayer partner (like being in the same Marine troop together, storming the gates!) and it is good to be under her mantle. She has led me to a deeper love and trust in God. :o

That’s a very good way to do it.

Would it be possible to see if anyone else in my Parish would feel called to make the consecration and ask the Parish Priest to direct us. I have a Spiritual Director but the Sister is very far away from me and we discuss things over the telephone. She knows I feel drawn to make the consecration and has said I should do this.

I don’t like to bother my Parish Priest, he is so busy.

That’s so beautiful.🙂

I want to know my Mother better, her silence makes her seem so deep and mysterious to me that whenever I think about her I am drawn immediately to Jesus and her relationship with Him and I want to understand this better than I do.

This book has had a deep impression on me too, I want to know how to go about it and do it properly.

Thanks again Stove!!😃 In one of those threads I found this link which has the ‘True devotion to Mary’ online to read. That’s very good. I’ll start reading that and perhaps I will understand better how to make and live the consecration properly.

Hi Blessedstar,
I did the 33 day preparations in prayer starting Nov. 5 and the consecration on Dec. 8th last year. I was shaken like a leaf when I went up to the alter and signed my name at the bottom of the written consecration. It took alot for me to admit that deeply, by my own merits, I could not gain heaven. No sooner did I do this then did Mary fade into the background to my surprise. For me, it was a way to ensure the proper dispersion of my offerings of my past sufferings, though I still try to influence offerings by prayer, I know they are truley going to follow God’s will through Mary and are not tainted by my earthly failings in virtue. For me , it fit, I was convinced and inspired by St. de Monfort’s book, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin in one reading which I did in one day. I was transfixed on the book and read it non stop to completion. So convinced by it, I had to take a step back and ask others about it on this forum. I hope you benefit from his writings in some way and are brought closer to Jesus in the way the Lord choose’s for you. Tim

Hi blessedstar,

I read both True Devotion and The Secret of Mary last year, as well as a biography of St. Louis de Montfort. I have been trying to make the consecration since then. Unfortunately, I always seem to “miss” a day, so I’m set to start again January 9th - please pray for me!

While I’ve been trying to do this, the Holy Spirit has shown me things about myself that were actually shocking to me. Apparently I need an extended preliminary stage. 😊

I love the idea of doing this with a group - it seems like something that should be done in community. 👍
