I do not remember it, but it has wrote some place about Matthew 21:22 Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive.’ or Mark 11:24

I have thought that book is fine.

And asked about it in one thread before.😊

-No, I will not recommand it to others if it is believed so wrong -you know I thought that it should say that whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive, is from God, not by self.

If you twist the truth, even just a little, it is not the truth anymore. Private interpretation of the scripture is inherently wrong, in the secret’ s case it is even a secular interpretation. Needless to say that picking single verses out of context is wrong to begin with.

Again I recommend you to watch the videos because it gives you the answer clearly.
The secret promotes the idea, that YOU possess the power over supernatural occurances and undermines it with a bible verse. I would even go as far to say that it gives the idea that you are all-powerful, if you want so - sounds very blasphemical to me…
You run into the danger of forgetting that it is all from God and that we received it from Him and in the end it is all for Him.

The secret twists this idea and puts not God into the center but our ego - not what God wants, but what I want.

Well, I was absolutely astonished when I saw the DVD. It was SO materialistic and self-centred. Also, the people interviewed (even Jack Canfield!) scared me with their such strong faith in this “law of attraction”.

I can see how this would make someone shallow, and make them want to lose contact with other people because they’re afraid of bringing harm or disease to themselves. In this way, I find The Secret to be almost cult-ish.

Exactly. It’s appalling advice. Aside from the self-centred, materialistic, selfish aspects it’s also just plain bad advice - it’s self-help for the lazy, because you don’t actually have to do anything and anyone with any common sense and intelligence should know that you can’t just sit around and wait for all the good things to come to you just because you think real hard about them, you have to get up of your lazy butt and do something about them.

I was felt to the story, and I grieved for the reality of this world; still my despair passed away. I felt a certain delight even in the thought that one should sacrifice plenty and comfort for the Truth, and that story is teach us oposite from " the Secret," I thought that only ones who walked away from Omelas can go to heaven. off somewhat suffering in this world is kind of happiness, If you choose happiness of this world , plenty and comfort,you will lose the moral, moral is so much more important than all the world material happiness. If sufferings come, We will endure them in His name.and that henceforth kind and merciful Redeemer would watch over us.

I felt almost happy, and want to speak of my happiness to brothers sisters,

The things they talk about in The Secret aren’t “new” at all, but very old.

When people here on this forum ask for money, health, or relationship help…they are asking for prayers or advice to improve specific things in their lives that they want. In other words, “seeking those things we want to attract to ourselves,” to quote you.

When CAF members ask people to pray that their loved one gets well, they say, “my son has a cancer test tomorrow, please pray that it is negative.”
Someone here keeps posting that they are out of money and their UI is running out and asks us to pray that they will find enough money to pay their bills.

They are both wanting and hoping for specific outcomes, to attract health and money. (Just like they talk about in The Secret)
People pray for specific outcomes.

But if they were only “wanting to do God’s will” wouldn’t it make more sense for them to only pray one prayer, which is that God keeps doing what he wants?

They should be praying, “if god wants me to lose my home, I pray I will lose my home…” or, “if god wants my son to die, I pray for him to have cancer at the test tomorrow”…instead of actually praying for what they, as human beings who actually desire certain things that are happy-making, want…?

hmmm…to get a clear picture of spiritual idea, read all the letters of st paul, and read, city of god, by st augustine…the idea, is that there is a whole spiritual world, a tremendous world, many many demons, and so on…as also angels…the holy sprt, the dvil too.

part of the idea is to distinuish a spirit of god, from a spirit that is deceptive.
so using the name of jesus and jesus principles puts you in touch with chrsts spirt.

if it is not of god, or perhaps new age, even if it looks “good” it still can be not of god.
this is something you don t get.
 
This book was incredibly well marketed but that does mean it’s a good book. If you go to amazon.com and click Look Inside, you’ll see this New Age book for what it is - snake oil. Another “we’ve got all the answers” book. It’s certainly not the first. I would not encourage anyone to read it.

While the contents of that DVD might be simplistic, on what grounds do you dismiss it all as rubbish? Since you are asking on here for refutation, it seems to me that you really don’t have an argument against it, you just personally don’t like it, and more likely simply don’t and won’t understand it. Now there’s a basis for calling somethng “rubbish” that is at the root of bigotry and prejudice. Critical thinking, anyone?

It’s about positive thinking and “ask and you shall receive”–its main theme is akin to a well-known lesson taught in the bible…why do you call that “rubbish”?

There are a zillion negative things out there to worry about…it may be more useful to concentrate your energies ridding the world of those things, instead of a book that tries to help people not to give up hope.

an astogical reading could be considered positive.
but it is not positive by gods standards-this is the enemies territory[and just one of many]
a tarot card reading could be considered positive, not by gods thought. this is considered run by demonic forces…why do you think they can be dead on at a times?
its a trick.
this is basic christain theology.
i see sh maclaine on i views, and i like her, shes charasmatic,
and she can sound quite positive herself.
past lives,psychics, aren t considered part of christ/
but tricks of the enemy…to decieve, as positive as they may seem.
