I am a bit concerned about this new concept of the secret which has become popular. Many of my family members who were brought up as devout catholic have embraced this new formula claiming that it is not defying there beliefs what is the catholic stance on it

There are a number of threads about it already - click on ‘Search’ and type the word ‘message’ in and you will find them. Basically it’s a modern-day rehashing of the old idea of ‘the power of positive thinking’, which ordinarily wouldn’t be a problem.

However, ‘the Secret’ does place it within a New-Age and distinctly unCatholic framework.

There’s only one self-help book that really lives up to its hype - that’s the Bible!
