The Bible does say that faith the size of a mustard seed moves mountains. If people actually believed that they’d have much more success. That is what the Secret will do for you.

I think you are slightly misinformed about New Age, though. All of them believe in God and do not even think the devil is real in the sense that you do. So how could they worship evil when their goal is to reach ultimate union with God and spread their own ‘light’ throughout the world? It’s really, really bad, annoying, and hurtful to call someone’s beliefs the work of Satan just because you disagree with them. In the future, please keep this in mind.

Thanks!

Remember, the devil can appear as an angel of light. When our focus is off of Jesus Christ as Lord it is easy to get taken in by “high-sounding words”, such as “The Secret”.

We have all we need in Sacred Scripture and the Sacraments. To get sidetracked by writings that take our focus off of Jesus is having “itching ears”.

I don’t know what is happening, but my reply to the quote is not being posted.

I wanted to say that the devil can appear as an angel of light and take our focus off of Jesus. A lot of new age writings have a “high-sound” to them, but are not all about Jesus and His teachings.

So, while books like “The Secret” are not blatantly evil sounding, they can take our eyes off of Sacred Scripture and lead us down the wrong path.

And, Satan CAN work through us when we are caught off-guard such as people who read these books and discuss them with others, recommending them.

We can be the instrument of evil without being aware of it, if we are not careful.

If the Secret really worked you could cure all the worlds problems by giving everybody a copy and have them lesson to it every day. It would sure be nice if life were that easy.

Followed a link on the story and found this quote from the book:

she (the author of the book: Rhonda Byrne) writes: “If you see people who are overweight, do not observe them, but immediately switch your mind to the picture of you in your perfect body and feel it.”

If that is not self worship I don’t know what is. Concentrating on overweight people is one thing, yeah it might not be uplifting or encouraging but the perfect body part? is that kind of behavior taught in the bible? Doubt it.

And a quote from the article I was reading about the book:

“On an ethical level, “The Secret” appears deplorable. It concerns itself almost entirely with a narrow range of middle-class concerns—houses, cars and vacations, followed by health and relationships, with the rest of humanity a very distant sixth.” (emphasis added)

In my opinion, the book is all about GREED. I want, I will, I get. For those defending the book as ‘can be co-operative with religion (even Catholicism)’ I’m not so sure they know what they are defending. Now, I have not read the book, but from the short excerpts I have seen it is like the article said… ‘deplorable’.
You don’t have to read a whole book to know the outcome and consequences.

Now I will let others apply the millions (exaggeration) of verses in the bible that speaks against such behavior. But, for those of you who the bible and the Church is not an authority, I suppose you will have a free conscience.

I have not read the book yet but I work at wal-mart and it is selling like crazy. if it is like the purpose book it will just bring the author a lot of money. I was so glad when Father champlin came out with the alterntive perspective to the purpose it helped me with my Catholic perpective as I have been back about a year and a half now and the book the purpose was nice but not complete. so maybe a good catholic author can come out with a good alternative to the secret. I wish Opra would get some messages about faith.
There are too many self help books out on the market, IMHO

Here is the Gospel according to Oprah 😃

Actually the book tries to link The Secret to the Catholic Church…
It looks like it is a work of the devil. Just see these connection.

Apparently they stole the word from our catholic tradition. It is the Eucharist that used to be called 'The Secret"
Your message sounded interesting, so I clicked the first link and it said “This video hasn’t been approved yet.”

I clicked the second link and it said “page cannot be found.”

I clicked the third link and it said “malformed video ID”

So, I could not view any of the links you posted.

However, I am convinced that “The Secret” is a problematic book.

Interesting -You mentioned about the “secret” being a part of Catholic tradition. You may be right…many years ago I read a book by John Haffert titled “The World’s Greatest Secret”, and it was all about the Eucharist.

Yes that’s what I was saying. On youtube there is a video that shows how the Eucharist is “The World Greatest Secret”. It is actually called that name. It is the video which the link did not work.

I don’t know why the links did not work. They are working for me. Anyway. The first link is a video on GodTube and is named “Gospel according to Oprah”.
