But the Apostles wrote the account after the fact, not while it was actually happening. So if they were recording later what had been a mistake they would have recorded that fact as well. They would have said, maybe; ‘…well, we drew lots and chose a new guy but later we found out that we were wrong’. And since they did not record that they were wrong in choosing a replacement we can conclude that it was the correct thing to do and everything worked out fine.The Scriptures say the Apostles chose a man whom they believed met the requirements of an Apostle. Maybe they were wrong, but the Book of Acts would still accurately record their wrong choice. If we start assuming that everything uttered by an Apostle in the context of a historical narrative is to be absolutely trusted, then we run into a few problems with Peter’s denial. Now I’m just arguing for fun here - I personally think the Apostles were right in ordaining Mathias. But even if they weren’t, there’s no need to say the Scriptures are inaccurate.
