Is it sung or read in your church…or just ignored
?
Mine too! God Bless, MemawIn our church the Sequence was beautifully sung while standing :harp:
If he comes from a Byzantine background, one would imagine he would have a true “ars celebrandi” when it comes to the liturgy. It would seem very odd if he didn’t insist on chant and incense every Sunday.Ignored.
As I got to Mass yesterday it occurred to me that I should ask the priest who was filling in if we were celebrating the Vigil of Pentecost or Pentecost itself. Note that we’ve never celebrated the Vigil in this parish. But there was Adoration and the Rosary and I forgot.
Everything had been set up for the Pentecost readings as usual but he celebrated the Vigil. We read the First and Second Readings of Pentecost but he read the Gospel from the Vigil.
I’m still trying to figure out if this priest is bi-ritual. He was ordained a Russian Orthodox priest in 1991, received into the Greek Catholic Church in 1995. In 2000 he came to the US and ministered there until this year when he came to Canada.
Does your schola cantorum not chant the sequence?Beautifully chanted by the cantor at the TLM.![]()
No incense but each time I hear him celebrate Mass he seems to be restraining himself from chanting everything. He always chants the doxology and, sadly, response is really muted on weekdays and at the Saturday evening Mass, masses which don’t usually have music. Let’s face it, a chanted Amen sounds weird when everyone sings his/her own version. If he comes from a Byzantine background, one would imagine he would have a true “ars celebrandi” when it comes to the liturgy. Depends. 7:30 am read, 9:00, 10:30, and Noon, sung because there is a choir/band.Is it sung or read in your church…or just ignored?
