If lust is listed as the least offensive of the seven deadly sins. Why is fornication considered a grave sin?

Because those with lots of pride and anger, at the bottom of the pyramid, love to make a public mockery out of those whose sins are near the top.

It keeps them firmly planted where they are, where they are most comfortable because their behavior repertoire is best suited for that.

And thus, maybe it’s not really a pyramid but a vicious cycle where sinners in the hospital think they’re entitled to play doctor to those think who are more ‘diseased.’

Yes, and whose diseases show outwardly. That’s important because Jesus had the same problem. People whose sins were obvious but vaguely defined, putting down those whose sins could be specified and identified.

It seems he never got angry at those with sins of immorality, but those who judged them.

One of my favorite chapters is Matt 23. It goes just as well today as it did back then:

Matt 23:27
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.

Every time I judge someone else’s actions, I think of this verse and it just seems to funny because here I am supposedly a follower of Jesus and look at what He might have had to say to me. 😛

Lust and Gluttony are sometimes regarded as more common but “less severe” because they are mostly dependent on having a body. It’s not good for your soul, mind you. Any bad habits you create could continue when you’re dead and a bodiless soul, and you wouldn’t want to have to come back to your body and be resurrected just in time for the second death through lust and gluttony. But sometimes people grow out of temptations to lust and gluttony, or can just take a physical trip away from them and retrain themselves not to pay attention to temptations of that sort.

The other Five Deadlies are still a problem whether you have a body or not, and so it’s harder to get away from them through strictly physical measures.
