Don’t you feel that the Bible is referring to the seven continents of the world when it speaks of the seven hills? Don’t we all wish it were one little city that happens to have seven hills surrounding it, or is built on seven hills? There are several cities around the world like this. But, isn’t the Bible speaking on a much grander scale than one city?

I don’t think it refers to anything but Rome.
Yes it refers to Rome. This is backed up by the Prophecies of various catholic saints over 2000 years who all say the city of seven hills is Rome

I haven’t been into prophecy too much as related to Revelations, Daniel and Isaiah.

But I would tend to believe that St. John was writing of the ruling regime at the time, Ancient Rome.

Yet, I note a recent article by Walid Shoebat, former PLO member who became Christian.
Yet no one in the prophecy arena even raised a red flag about the significance of this report; Iran (biblical Elam) must destroy Arabia. In Isaiah 21:9, Isaiah levels a prophetic oracle against Babylon using the same announcement in Revelation 18:1-2 and Revelation 14:8: “Babylon is fallen, is fallen”:
“The burden against Dumah” (Isaiah 21:11)
“The burden against Arabia” (Isaiah 21:13)
“All the glory of Kedar will fail” (Isaiah 21:16).
These are all in Arabia, which is destroyed by Iran “Elam” (Isaiah 21:2).
Which goes to show, careful in interpreting prophecy but to call the city of Seven Hills Rome is way off.

I think it has also been demonstrated that there are a number of cities in the World built on seven hills.

Just in the USA and Americas: Cincincatti??
Code:
Albany, New York[1]
Asunción, Paraguay, There are several small hills and slightly elevated areas throughout the city, including Cabará, Clavel, Tarumá, Cachinga, and Tacumbú, among others.
Athens, Texas, United States[2]
Cincinnati, Ohio, United States
Cranston, Rhode Island, United States
Fall River, Massachusetts
Guaranda, Ecuador
Lynchburg, Virginia, United States College Hill, Garland Hill, Daniel's Hill, Federal Hill, Diamond Hill, White Rock Hill, and Franklin Hill were the original "Seven Hills" of the City of Lynchburg.
Nevada City, California, United States, built on Piety, Lost, Prospect, Aristocracy, Boulder, Nabob, and Buckeye Hills
Nixa, Missouri, United States
Providence, Rhode Island, built on Christian Hill, College Hill, Constitution Hill, Federal Hill, Smith Hill, Tockwotten Hill, and Weybosset Hill.
Richmond, Virginia, United States, built on numerous hills and escarpments to include Union Hill, Church Hill, Council Hill, Shockoe Hill, Gambles Hill, Navy Hill and Oregon Hill.
Rome, Georgia, United States
Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States
San Diego, California, United States[citation needed]
San Francisco, California, United States (see List of hills in San Francisco, California)
Seattle, Washington, United States (see Seven hills of Seattle)
Seven Hills, Ohio, United States
Somerville, Massachusetts, United States, built on Clarendon Hill, College Hill, Spring Hill, Winter Hill, Central Hill, Plowed Hill, Cobble Hill.
Staten Island, New York, United States - Fort Hill, Ward Hill, Fox Hill, Grymes Hill, Emerson Hill, Todt Hill, and Richmond Hill.
Tallahassee, Florida, United States
Victoria, Argentina
Worcester, Massachusetts, United States, built on Airport Hill, Bancroft Hill, Belmont Hill, Grafton Hill, Green Hill, Pakachoag Hill, and Vernon Hill.
Yonkers, New York, United States[3][4]
And a number of others, notable:
Mecca, Saudi Arabia
Tehran, Iran
Jerusalem, Israel
And on and on, point being, there appears to be many cities built upon 7 hills. And one never would have known that.

Revelation was given to St. John on Patmos in the form of a divinely inspired vision. The content applied not merely to John in circa 90 AD, but to ALL HUMANS, I:thumbsup:N ALL AGES. John may have visualized seven hills, rising above the sea. Today, we might legitimately recognize the “seven hills” he VISUALIZED as the “seven continents.” The world is becoming rapidly globalized. Christianity will apply just as perfectly to the global age as it did to John’s age 2000 years ago. Scientific “progress” does not refute the Bible…it validates it!

Revelation 17 describes features of Anti-Christ’s coming world empire. The beast of verse 8 is a CLONE of a dead, evil, world historic figure. Indeed, a human clone is not a human, but a BEAST! When this individual is manifest (it is a world-famous figure) the unbelieving world will be deceived. They will regard it as a religious event…a resurrection, whereas, in reality, it will be a “scientific trick.”
Verse 9 reveals that this will be a worldwide empire…resting on the seven continents (seven hills)
Verses 10 and 11 relate to the TIMING of the beast 's appearance…IF the mysterious “seven kings” (some major world rulers) can be discerned. The eighth king will be Antichrist, who is pre-condemned to perdition (the lake of fire).
Verse 12 relates to ten kings (governors, if you will), who will rule over TEN STATES into which the world empire will be subdivided. These governors will receive their power in the same hour that the Antichrist is made manifest.

There is an end times thread here in the watercooler area where those with a similar interest might discuss this matter of “prophecy”.

Babylon is Rome.

The beast is the Roman Empire.

The harlot is idolatry.

The seven horns are seven emperors.

The eighth emperor is Nero. According to a rumor circulated in the Eastern Empire where John lived, Nero had not died and would return as emperor. Thus, he is “one of the seven”.

The ten kings or ten heads are the ten provinces of the Roman Empire. In the early years, persecution of the Christians was mostly in Rome, but later under the infamous emperor Diocletian, Christian persecution was extended out to the provinces.

The ten kings’s destruction of Rome may refer to the future rebellion of nations against Rome hundreds of years after John’s time.

Overall, I think this is the best interpretation and that Revelations has been fullfilled. 👍 I think the above is conventionally accepted.

If that be true …then where were the plagues on man kind? I heard of no locust, no water turning red. I believe all of this talk about it being Rome is just some kinda talk to make people complacent before the fall. Non bible- there are profits who say this is the last pope. Who knows? The whole point is that the proficy is cryptic, timeless and the other big point, No one will know the time of it’s arrival. Doesn’t it say something like I will come like a thief in the night. A thief doesn’t tell you he/she is coming, they just barge in. So to will the apocalypse.

Of all of the theories I’ve heard about this subject, this one is the best and probably closest to what will happen. It is refreshing to see someone thinking outside of the box. And to out think me on this one…I have to give you props. I can see this scenario happening more than mine. In mine it is a woman who will be the anti-christ.

Because one, no one would expect it. Two anti means not Christ, Jesus being male and holy, it would only make sense that the not Christ would be female and well we all know evil. The whole quote in Rev. about the seeds of this beings coming outa a field like thorns in my opinion just (the obvious) refers to the fact that this person will come from a small town. In my opinion from the USA because if it had been a known place they would have mentioned it or described it cleverly hiding it with cultural references so someone would figure it out …instead of ambiguity of not knowing the area or the time of which it was to happen.

The whore of babalon will be a real person. She will be the mother of the anti-christ. But she has a choice. Even the anti-christ has a choice.

To advert this outcome if we were to educate and live the true word of Jesus, we might just advert this fate. This fate comes from a world of evil. If we could only turn the world around to even a slightly better place, we might survive. Pray for the emotional, spiritual, and mental evolution towards Christ for the world.

**To grasp Revelation, it must be understood that it is St. John’s ***written letter ***about his VISION on the island of Patmos. A written movie review is not the same as the visual experience of seeing the movie. This is particularly true of some futuristic (prophetic) vision, where the author must describe his vision within the limited terms of his own time and the available vocabulary. Revelation suffers from being read too literally at times and too allegorically at others.

One of the primary points of misunderstanding is the word “beast.”

This confusion is resolved somewhat by understanding that in St. John’s time, Roman Emperor = Roman Empire.

In other words, in St. John’s time, to attack a Roman tax office (part of the empire) was viewed as a personal attack upon the Emperor, himself. All such crimes were equally punishable by death.

The word “beast” in Revelation refers either to anti-Christ, himself, or to his world empire. Discernment is needed to understand the intended meaning of a given verse using the word “beast.”

If St. John*** visualized ***seven large land masses (continents) above the sea in Revelation 17, what descriptive term could he have chosen? Many believed the world to be flat. The word or concept “continent” did not exist. He may simply have chosen “seven hills” (or seven mountains in some translations) as his best descriptor. In all truth, he never said “Rome” or the “seven hills of Rome.” Those interpretations were made by the early Church and 2000 years later people still cling to this interpretation in a time of globalization.

Revelation 17 reveals many things about the coming world empire of anti-Christ:“Many waters” is defined in 17:15 as “peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.”

Revelation 17:8: The beast (here Emperor, a human clone, a beast), is world-known. Nero simply will not qualify in modern times. The world would not react to the reappearance of Nero with amazement.

“Seven heads” is defined in 17:9 as “seven mountains on which the woman sits” (the seven continents).

17:1-3 The “great whore that sits on many waters” is the oppressive capital city of the world. She sits astride a beast (here meaning “Empire”) having seven heads (seven continents) and ten horns (subdivided into ten regions). The city is involved in human cloning (fornications, the mother of harlots, and abominations of the earth).

Which city, also very closely linked with the name “Babylon?”

Here is a hint: Google: Ishtar Gate of Babylon**

Another city hint:

Revelation 2:12

To the angel of the church in Pergamum, write this: I know that you live where Satan’s throne is, and yet you hold fast to my name and have not denied your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was martyred among you where Satan lives.

and

Revelation 13:2

The beast (sic Empire) I saw was like a leopard, but it had feet like a bear’s, and its mouth was like the mouth of a lion. To it the dragon gave its own power and throne.

Google: Pergamon altar

A thought:

Google: Hans Spemann

He won a Nobel Prize in 1935 for salamander cloning.

Another thought:

Ever see Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark?

There may be serious consequences for a nation or people that goes around the world collecting Satanic edifices and putting them on display in their capital city.

I don’t know about continents.

I think chapters 17-18 of the Book of Revelation make it pretty clear that Babylon (the city with seven hills) is a City. Not only does this City have seven hills but chapter 18 makes it clear that this city is a financial center and a Port City which suffers a supernatural chastisement by God. This chastisement is described in Rev. 18:21:

“Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great millstone, and as he hurled it into the sea, he said, ‘That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again.’”

Sounds like the coastal city of “Babylon” is destroyed by an asteroid impacting the ocean causing a Tsunami.

First thing about prophecy is that they will really happen; second is that you can’t analyze them to make a warm place for yourself; when the time comes there will be wise men to explain them to us. Until then we have to be content with all the suppositions possible.

Suppositions possible exclude the protestant interpretations trying to use the ambiguity of the Book of Revelation to put in the same sentece “the Pope” or “the Holy Catholic Church” with all sort of elucubrations.
