The shrinkage of Netflix's catalog

Interesting article. I have already dropped Netflix because of the shrinking catalog.

If the below comes to fruition as the article states, I may reconsider.

“All told, Netflix has said it will release 600 hours of original content by the time 2016 is done. That would take you 25 days to binge-watch all the way through — 25 days!”
 
I recommend daredevil. Great series with lead character who is a catholic who struggles with sin while trying to help others. Plus, it sheds a very positive light on the church. Not for children. 18 over due to violence.
 
I couldn’t care less about their original content!

We have Netflix for shows like the cooking competitions and a few shows from the BBC. I am completely uninterested in shows that are touted as “hip” or “edgey,” and the like.

We also enjoy a lot of movies – not their movies, but everything from the classics to current fare.

If they keep cutting back on those things, we’ll just cut our membership. 🤷

No big loss to us.
 
I watched first half of season 1 for Narcos from netflix and LOVED it, Im thinking about getting netflix just so I can watch for free.
 
I’ve always found the online streaming service to have very little to offer, at least in terms of movies that I like to watch. There’s not a single Francois Truffaut title in there, which I find completely unacceptable.

I keep the service only because my kids seem to enjoy some of the shows they offer.
 
I’m still happy with Netflix, largely due to the original content and some other exclusive and older titles we enjoy. One thing that disappoints me about the streaming services in general is the lack of older network shows. There are tons of old sitcoms, game shows and children’s shows that are sitting there unused. You can’t tell me that the networks or PBS wouldn’t be better served by offering them to Amazon, Hulu or Netflix at a greatly reduced rate, and making at least a little money.
 
So the question is, since Netflix is “moving forward”, will someone new fill the niche they are abandoning? Not everything new is improved. I am not alone in believing that quality (as well as morality) of programming and cinema has declined. I might find one new show a season that I deem worthwhile and the rest of my viewership is “old school”. This year my family is working through Voyager and DS9.
