Yep, the last one was in Spain, Cayetano Ripoll who was executed for the “sin” of Deism and preaching deist valuesDid the Catholic Church approve of the torture of heretics and burning them alive at the stake?

^ There isn’t quite as many as some Protestants make out, but the reigns of Catholic Monarchs like Isabella of Castile and perhaps to a lesser extent Mary of England were more or less orgies of bloodlust where inquisitors more or less had free license to do whatever they liked.
There were other groups just as bad, but they never had the same organized and persistant fevour as the inquisition. A good few torture devices like the Iron Maiden, Stretching rack and Judas cradle were supposedly developed and certainly used by them.
It’s a shame the inquisition records are still mostly witheld inside the Vatican archives, I daresay they could tell us a great deal more than the few examples that fell into French and Spanish hands during the French Revolution and the Spanish Civil war respectively.
There’s actually some church sponsored art from the Renaissance featuring burnings taking place, here’s one of St. Dominic for example condemning Cathars to death
