Reflection by Fr. Thomas Rosica, C.S.B. - The devotion to the Sacred Heart offered a tender, compassionate spirituality that helped to renew the Church and counter Jansenism’s severity and sectarianism. If there are adjectives that describes the modern world, they are loveless and preoccupied with the present and immediate that they give almost no thought to eternity and the everlasting joys that await those who have served God faithfully here on earth. Only a healthy heart strong and supple can give and receive lifeblood. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus heal our coronary infirmities.

I thought he was referring to metaphorical coronary affirmities (the ones of our spiritual “hearts”) or have I misunderstood your question?

Fr. Thomas Rosica is saying that devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus has suffered cardiac arrest , but , yes , he also speaks of our own heart problems , what you call our metaphorical coronary affirmities .

Fr. Thomas Rosica is saying that devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus has suffered cardiac arrest
What does that mean please?
That people are no longer interested in making a devotion to the sacred heart or rather that people who have made these devotions have suffered cardiac arrest (sounds weird, but I have heard of them sometimes finding enlarged hearts of some saints upon examining their bodies post-mortem)?

It’s hard sometimes to motivate yourself to make a devotion or to pray because of lack of interest or too bogged down with day to day things.
It’s something I struggle with personally.

He is speaking of the decline in devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus .

If the devotion is not for you no worries . There are many strands of spiriituality in the Church and we would be crazy to try to adopt them all .

For me the devotion means a lot . To think that at the core of all that is there is a divine/human heart beating solely for love of all is “heart warming” to put it mildly .

I am always seeing people on here saying that devotions to the Sacred Heart or to Mary have declined, while simultaneously seeing devotional movements at many different churches as well as groups forming on the Internet - which are great for people who are lacking in devotional groups locally, perhaps because they are isolated or their church only has a visiting priest twice a week and is thus locked most of the time, etc.

The Two Hearts devotion to the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart is big here. On the first Friday of the month, you can go to one of a few churches, have Rosary, confessions, evening Mass, then a prayer program with scripture that goes all night, more confessions, rosary and about a half hour of Adoration, and then an early morning Mass for First Saturday in the wee hours. You don’t have to stay for all of it, and a lot of people go to the First Friday part and then leave after Mass and go home to bed, but a few people stay up all night and get their First Friday and First Saturday Mass requirements taken care of.

All of these priests saying “devotion has declined” should have been around in the late 70s, 80s and 90s when devotions had REALLY declined and you usually couldn’t find anything other than a daily Rosary said in the early morning, and “Scripture study” groups of varying quality.
