I’m watching the re-runs on A&E. Who were the two main characters that got whacked in the last episodes? I heard that Michael was one of them.
This program shows the opposite of the CSI-type programs – crime from the criminals’ viewpoint.
What’s amazing, is that Tony could have been ‘popped’ early in the series, and that would have been the whole show.
It was necessary to keep him alive and in motion, to keep the plot going.
In the re-runs, Tony explains his philosophy about several things, like the distinctions he makes between business (which may involve whacking somebody) and family. There was always fireworks when these were crossed.
Tony says he’s like a soldier, trying to earn his living like the early millionaires did, doing the same type of things they did, to “make” it. He rationalizes that he’s no different from any of them.
Like the actors say, in those interviews on A&E, there’s depth to the characters. Well, yeah, such as it is.
I stopped watching on HBO right about where the reruns are now. I plan to keep watching.
I have a real, personal problem watching these people feasting all the time. There’s so much eating, like in Everybody loves Raymond. In that series, the guys will eat pizza and a whole chocolate cake at 10 p.m. without qualms.
Sure, the Sopranos is a secular drama, with extreme moral relativism and situational ethics about everything. The priest told Carmella to stay with her husband, to preserve the marriage, no matter what else was going on. She’s a good case study in rationalization of everything, especially when those things pay the bills and offer major materialistic indulgences, in jewels, furs, house, cars, social standing, etc.
