"The Sorrowful Mother Stood" ("Stabat Mater" ) - stanza 13

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As I read the next stanza of the hymn, Stabat Mater it reminded me of the book: “Mary, the Church at the Source” and these words written by then Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Emeritus, Benedct XVI:
“…The image of the grieving Mother who in her suffering had become sheer compassion…”

We are not only to “hear” but obey Jesus’ words:
“Behold your Mother”

The words of the hymn “Stabat Mater” encourage us to ask our Mother to help us grow more like her:
Let me mingle tears with thee,
Mourning Him who mourned for me,
All the days that I may live.

Come Holy Spirit , kindle in us the Fire of Your Love as you filled Mary !
" O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in Your servants, in the spirit of Your holiness, in the fullness of Your power, in the perfection of Your ways, in the truth of Your virtues, in the communion of Your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in Your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen."

Thank you both for your hearts to let me know you “liked” the post, and thanks also for your reply, Victoria. It was kind of you to mention our dear brother, and Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI’ s birthday today. I read yesterday in Zenit that Pope Francis began Holy Week by visiting Pope Emeritus and wishing him Birthday greetings for today.

The picture in Zenit of them sitting together showed a very frail-looking Pope Emeritus and a rather concerned looking Pope Francis. What a gift Pope Benedict XVI has been to the Church throughout his years in ministry – such a humble man! His writings have been always special for me, as he has a unique gift for explaining profound truths in such a simple way that we can all comprehend – even with all our limitations, – the beauty of the Truth he conveys to us.

I began yesterday to re-read Volume 2 of his trilogy “Jesus of Nazareth”. Yesterday I read his words on the entry into Jerusalem and the Cleansing of the Temple. I wanted again, to read his words on the Passion this week.

May our Lady, Mother of the Church and Queen of the Clergy, bring Jesus to Pope Emeritus in special ways today, and when his time on earth is over may she bring hm and all of us who love her Son, home to our Father’s House.

Thanks so much for posting this! The music is not the music I’m used to hearing for “Stabat Mater” but the images and beauty of the Cathedral and the singing were really touching – especially considering it was so short a time before the Cathedral would be enveloped in flames.

The translation into English from French was helpful – it too was different from the translation I’m used to, but there is much to ponder again in the words of this hymn, at this time of Holy Week. The fire – at the Cathedral of Our Lady – itself is something I continue to ponder.

Blessings to you and to all during these days of Holy Week.
