No more, no less–it’s your essence.
 
The soul is the life principle in a body. Even plants have a soul.

But the human soul is also a spirit. A spirit is a partless, spaceless, immortal being, which can know and love. God is a spirit. Angels are spirits too. (But God and Angels don’t have bodies.)

I’m not sure if animals have spirits.

I’m not sure if God has soul, but I think Jesus had a soul when he became incarnate.

I’m not sure, but I think The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit possess the same spirit. In his book, Theology for Beginners, Frank Sheed say that they love with the same will and know with the same intellect.
 
The body is the principle of materiality. The spirit is the principle of animation (“breath”). The soul is the expression for the fundamental unity of the two (the rejection of metaphysical dualism).

The three Persons of the Trinity differ from each other only by relationship, not substance. There is only one God.
Nevertherless there are three Persons, in the sense that a person is an active agent.
We say the Father is the knower, the Son is the known, and the Holy Spirit is the love of the Father and Son for each other,
however, none of the Persons has a monopoly of these activities. Each does it, apparently by participating is each other’s reality.
as we will participate in the divine nature to a limited degree.
 
Our soul is the spiritual aspect of our nature that is the source of our power of reason, free will, moral awareness and the capacity for love. It is overwhelming evidence that we are created in the image of God and not freaks of nature which exist for no reason or purpose…
 
The soul is the immaterial and immortal part of us that survives death.

In the time of Christ the Sadducees did not believe in the immortality of the soul. The Pharisees did.

That is why Jesus directed his teaching to the Pharisees. They were more open to the possibility of being saved because they believed the soul goes somewhere after death.
 
The Soul is that person that is you everything that makes you you that is not material is the soul.
Thats hard especially because we have it and we know virtually nothing about it. Sucks…Soul and Spirit are two different things?
 
Souls is meant to be understood as life, of most basic properties are the vegetative things such as growth and nutritious needs, plants for example. Animals having a greater degree of a soul, that is locomotion, memory, and a degree of learning. Humans having the greatest degree a soul in the corporeal realm, that is having all the lower abilities and it’s distinctive properties, intellect and will and the supernatural end given to humans by God, for all other souls cease to exist after death. As for operation with the body, the soul, the form, is that which directs the body, the matter, to whatever end the soul wills. Though not in the sense that the soul is separate from the body as like a ghost in the machine, but the soul and body make up a complete one substance of which either can affect the other.
