Jews weren’t the only ones overjoyed at the fall of the Papal States, by far the largest number voting in the plebiscite were Catholics and where were the protests amongst Catholics worldwide?You’re right, it wasn’t so happy for the Jews.

I’m not particularly knowledgeable of this area of Catholic history. I do know that 3 parishes around me have memorials dedicated to those warriors who fought on behalf of the Papal states. The lists are quite large, especially if you take into account that this was 1860s Quebec.Jews weren’t the only ones overjoyed at the fall of the Papal States, by far the largest number voting in the plebiscite were Catholics and where were the protests amongst Catholics worldwide?
In any case, it really doesn’t matter where the support was. Europe had already been ruined by enlightenment thinking, the fall of the papal states was inevitable at this point.

And what wonderful happened in 70AD? The destruction of the Temple? And why is that so great?
Righteous, get used to people continuing to harp on the Spanish Inquisition. It did happen centuries ago and, just like the RCC’s genocides of the Albigensians in the south of France, these events not only killed a lot of people, but denied existence to all of their descendants.
The Nazis and their many willing executioners, many of whom were Catholic, killed millions of Jews, and believe me, they won’t live that down for many centuries.
Atrocities and Holocausts have a way of hanging on.

True, Jews have been annihilated, forcibly converted to other religions, driven from our homes, BUT God always makes sure a remnant survives! Baruch Hashem (Praise His Name!)
Incidentally, in the mail late last week, I got a DVD I’d ordered from the History Channel, entitled simply, “The Inquisition” (evidently they do not recognize that there was more than one inquisition, but anyway…)
I started to watch it, but it got pretty graphic, what with the descriptions of the methods of torture. I put it aside, figuring its not a very edifying thing to be watching right before Passover, which for us Jews is called “the season of our redemption”!

As I said, I didn’t watch it all because I got it on the eve of Passover,and the gruesome torture scenes, I felt, were not edifying for getting in the mood for the holiday (!)Who was the leading authority for the program?
You can look the DVD up to find out who the authorities were for it…or wait until I’ve had time to see the whole thing, and I’ll let you know. From what I did see so far, they interviewed some authorities but I forget who they were.
