I am Australian. I know little of American settler history except the Hollywood cowboys and Indians films and the mayflower from uk.
Have you heard of St Patrick. He explained the Holy Trinity using a Shamrock.

I am glad you now do not see God the Holy Spirit and the devil as the same or similar.
The devil only has influence over us if we let him. We reject him like we do any bad fruit and meat.
So we just stay close to God and recognise and reject the temptations of the devil. We use the example Jesus set for us in the 40;days and nights in the desert . At the end of this time the devil tried to tempt Jesus, who famously said to the devil
‘Man does not live by bread alone but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
We imitate this in out Lenten fasting Penance and almsgiving.

Dearest,
When we discuss God and His angels, good and bad, it is important to identify: GOD IS GOD! Nothing is more powerful. FATHER, SON, & HOLY SPIRIT. Satan is not close to the same league. But, it is sweet and important that you believe in our God. Even we, crotchety, old ppl have things to learn. Some of us are more learned and/or read, than others. But we all have much to give and receive.
Now, Satan still answers to God. Yes, he is the opposite of God’s goodness. Satan is evil personified.
Yes, we can feel God. Yes, HE’ll speak to us. But, will we hear. That communication comes easier, if we look like,out of worldly touched, ppl.
I wanted to say DORKS but the CAF Family would not grasp my definition of DORK. Anyway, when I was going to mass often, prayer group and Bible Studies and Charismatic services, His voice was clear. My husband was uncomfortable w following God that much. So, I decreased some activity. But, JOY UNSPEAKABLE AND FULL OF GLORY. I miss that closeness. One nun friend said,”It is easy to be Holy in a convent. It’s more difficult in the world.” SIGH! As close to God, we travel, we would look a little different and be declining a lot of invitations to go find temptation.
SEEK YE FIRST, THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND EVERYTHING ELSE WILL BE ADDED UNTO YOU.
