Thanks for the replies, I think if it wasn’t on the Index in the 40s it was probably taken off cause its an old book. There were books on the Index during that time though that were later taken off.

If this book was forbidden for a time because it supported daily Communion, of course that is something that is in fact encouraged today 🙂

But we would be bound, if indeed we are, by the version in place when it was abolished in 1966.

Which leads to the question, if we are still bound by it, why isn’t it more easily available?
Tell me if you think Cardinal Ratzinger says we are bound or not. I quoted his words in an earlier post.

"The Index retains its moral force despite its dissolution."

He was issuing that instruction (not opinion) as head of the CDF.

Unless something comes out to change that then what he said applies.

As an example when the Code of Canon Law 1983 came out specific reference to the Freemasons was not there so people thought Catholics could become masons. Cardinal Ratzinger as head of the CDF issued a declaration confirming this was not the case and Catholics who are Freemasons were in a state of mortal sin. Freemasonry is still incompatible with Catholicism.

What I am saying is that when the head of the CDF issues a declaration what has been declared applies.

If anyone wants to be 100% sure they should write to the Vatican.

I notice you didn’t answer my question – why isn’t it more easily available if we are still bound by it? I really can’t imagine the Church saying “You can’t read the books on the Index, and by the way, good luck finding out which books those are.”
