I know, no worries. It’s this new platform. Not very user friendly.

But he does not mention Masses with the faithful. If the EF was not abrogated, the priest does not need to ask the bishop for permission to say a public EF Mass.

That’s like saying if the Spanish Mass went out of style and was basically never said, if a priest wanted to restart saying it he would have to get permission. That makes not sense.

Note: I do agree that the bishop can shut down an EF. That is within his jurisdiction even if it is a horrible idea.

Lol… I posted it on the wrong thread… I have two windows open and I meant to post it on the Things That Go Bump in the night thread

And by the way those who saw it before I edited… even if I intended to post it here it’s obviously you didn’t read it. Takes a while.

I’m sorry, I don;'t understand.
Benedict states that in “Masses without a congregation” a priest does not need permission.
That says to me a “public Mass” would need permission.

As I said, search for some of BrJREducation’s posts on this topic. He was a wealth of information.

Nothing, just a reply to the comment that there was “nothing wrong” with the middle ages.

Well, if the EF was never abrogated, it remained on equal footing with the OF. I don’t know my liturgical history, but I don’t think anything was said concerning the EF once Vatican II happened. Everyone just went to the OF.

If the EF is a fully legitimate way of worship in the Roman rite, why would one need permission to say it in public?

I think they are not in full communion because they are still wary of what the Church is doing and has done with the Mass and thus are still needed to exist outside the formal structure of the Church for the good of the Church.

I’ve looked this up. The term “Private Masses” is rather vague. The faithful can attend private Masses. My question is, what is the difference between Public and Private Masses?

1: currently they don’t exercise legitimate ministry within the Church, other than hearing confessions.
According to Part 2 of the link above, legitimate ministry is lacking for both marriage and hearing confessions, due to jurisdiction.

The world is divided into parishes (within their respective dioceses) so SSPX encroach on the parish in which they attempt to minister.

Well for one, there’s no homily. I’m sure that some of the prayers like the Oratre Fratres are different as well.

Pope Francis allowed them to validly hear confessions for the Year of Mercy, and then, as I understand it, extended that.

Do you realize how crazy this sounds?
Separate from the Church because you are better than she is?
That is pride pure and simple.

Right. I new about marriages, but doesn’t a Novus Ordo priest have to do them in the SSPX chapel?
