In the Catholic church here there is a statue of Mary the Blessed Virgin.

There is a statue of Saint Joseph.

What are some of the statues in your church?

There has been a vast downsizing of statues in the local Catholic parishes, owing to a former bishop who doesn’t seem to have appreciated the artistry, majesty, and teaching value of having them. He specifically had all the dreadful main crucifixes of Jesus on the cross removed and replaced with a statue of (obviously) Jesus sort of taking off into the air (like Superman).

I think I’ve read that Eastern Catholic and Orthodox churches don’t emphasize the crucifixion so much, either.

There seems to have been some recent emphasis on St. Joseph, not only in statuary, but also in being placed in the Canon prayers of the Mass.

I maintain that through the Davidic line, St. Joseph was the King of Israel, although I haven’t gotten much support for that in these forums. You might observe that in scripture, Joseph sort of goes away, with no further ado. But, that earthly departure would make Jesus the rightful (earthly) regal descendent of David, as foretold in scripture. Mary is almost always depicted with a crown, but I think St. Joseph should be crowned, also.

Pax Christi!

We have: A “touchdown” Jesus superimposed on a cross, a Virgin and Child (both crowned), two St. Josephs (one in the nave and one in the narthex), and a St. Thérèse of Lisieux. We have an extra St. Joe outside. We’re St. Joseph’s Church.

St. Joseph, pray for us!

Almost forgot: a Sacred Heart statue with votive candles.

God bless.

Ugh, I messed up. I meant St Anthony of Padua, not St Francis. And we also have very ornate Stations of the Cross, and, of course, a large Crucifix, as well as a beautiful stained-glass window of the Baptism of Christ by the baptismal font.

Three of Our Blessed Mother
St. Joseph
St. Martín de Porres
the two Patrons of Missions: St. Thérèse of Lisieux and St. Francisco Javier
Two paintings of the Divine Mercy Jesus
There are two angels genuflecting besides each of the two Tabernacles
Two sets of the Stations of the Cross
