I have been doing a bit of research on the Stigmata of Jesus Christ, and I was wondering if everyone that has ever has the Stigmata markings been announced a saint? Thank you!

I don’t know if you can call the wounds that Christ showed on his resurrected body the stigmata; he was crucified in reality. Padre Pio and St Francis come readily to mind to do some research on. Good Luck.

My confirmation saint, Saint Rita, had partial stigmata. Saint Padre Pio also had stigmata.

No. There have been incidences of fakers.

why on earth would someone fake stigmata? what would they gain from it are there any modern cases of false stigmatics? Just curious

I can think of any number of reasons. Spiritual pride, attention seeking, public accolades, money, etc.

If you look it up in the Catholic Encyclopedia (article written in 1912, not exactly “current”) there were 300+ known stigmatics, of which only 62 were canonized. It’s online at New Advent dot org. (a good reference source, btw).

The stigmata are not proof of sanctity.
God gives many graces, not all of them are sanctifying grace and one does not actually have to be in a state of grace to receive many of them.

The stigmata may even be of just the preternatural realm (like levitation) rather than the “supernatural.”

“Obedience is the litmus test of the Church” is mentioned in that article.

I believe this statement is for these very times.

Her story is a sad one that thankfully ended with the exorcism of her demons and in her repentance of her error and reconciliation with the Church, but the damage and scandal created…the many lives affected by her actions. How many people of sincere faith were lead away from that faith by her? Such a pity. It was interesting to read that St Ignatius of Loyola was a skeptic of her claims, and St John of Avila (whom she refused to even meet when he was visiting in Cordova).
