Has the stole gone the way of the maniple?
I went to confession this evening in a church that has three priests and four confessionals. I lost count of how many people were in line.
One confessional was in use. The pastor strolled in later wearing only an alb, no stole. I had noticed he seldom wears a stole, even putting it aside while celebrating Mass. He proceeded to hear confessions while standing in among the pews in the middle of the church. Standing for confession, is this something new or just an Diocese of Orange thing?
 
You had to mention the contentious ‘Orange’ word 🙂

A lot of people around here seem to have problems with that diocese 😉
 
Our priests always wear stoles, when performing a priestly duty. During confessions after the communal penance service on Tuesday there were many, many people in line. Priests from another parish came in to help, and they heard confessions up near the front of the church in open air, but only because all three confessionals were being used by our three priests. Monsignor also made sure to request people don’t get to close to the open-air confessions and that we all maintained silence.
 
Our new priest wears one. I’m glad that he is very orthodox. Our parish really needed that!!
 
Our priest wears one whenever he performs priestly functions. All the priests at the last penance service wore them.

Yes, the “Orange” word…Have you ever thought about moving to the Oakland area?😃

Specific priestly vestments are required for performing certain functions. A purple stole is required for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, (except in an emergency)
 
It’s actually quite silly to hear confessions wearing an alb but not a stole - after all, the alb is a vestment technically common to all the baptized, so he’s left off the identifier of himself as someone who actually has the power to forgive sins, essentially “vesting” for no reason. Most priests, if they’re not fully vesting, throw on a stole over their blacks without an alb, which is, symbolically not to mention rubrically, the obviously smarter choice.

A move is in the works, but a greater distance than Oakland. In Zacatecas our people love and respect the padre because he respects the priesthood and the Church.
The priest without stole is pastor of one of the parishes that has made YouTube. 'Nuff sed?

Absolutely, 'nuff said. The diocese of Orange seems almost “in your face” with this kind of thing.

Our priests wear the stole for confession. Our old pastor usually wore a black cassock. Now, like yesterday, I was with a priest friend and asked him to hear my confession. It was in his office and he didn’t put on a stole, but he didn’t expect me to ask, really.
 
My pastor usually has his on. There has been once or twice where he has come out to do confessions (we offer them before Mass) and he’s forgotten it. It doesn’t bother me, as it isn’t common. shrug I guess I am just happy that he is coming to hear confession.

The proper thing to do would have been to say I’ll be in the confessional in a few minutes. Unless of course you were having a heart attack in his office, and you were waiting for the paramedics.
 
Was their a stole in the confessional. I know several priests who leave a purple stole in the confessional, so it’s always there.

They will don the stole after they enter the confessional.

They also keep one in a drawer in their office, in case a need arises to hear a confession there.
