Saint Monica was the mother of Saint Augustine, who also became a saint, one of the greatest saints of history.
According to a legend, Santa Monica, California, was named after her because a local dripping spring was reminiscent of the tears Saint Monica shed over her son’s early faithless life.
Her feast day has been moved to August 27, the day before the feast day of her son, Saint Augustine.
