Saint Cecilia, who lived several hundred years after Christ, is remembered by name during the mass, in the first eucharistic prayer. According to an early account, she was forced into marriage. Then she told her pagan husband that an angel protected her in her vow of virginity, and she told him if believed in the one God and was baptized he could see the angel. Listening to her, he went to the Pope of the time to be baptized, and when he came back to her, he saw an angel with flaming wings who watched over her. It was a time of great persecution, and he was killed for his faith first, and she buried him, then afterward she was executed.
