This short account does very well in providing what we know about this saint, who personally knew and accompanied Christ.
His remains are kept in a silver reliquary in the great pilgrimage center of Santiango de Compostela in northern Spain.

Omnipotens sempiterne Deus,
qui Apostolorum tuorum primitias beati Iacobi sanguine dedicasti,
da, quaesumus, Ecclesiae tuae ipsius confessione firmari,
et iugiter patrociniis confoveri.

Almighty ever-living God,
who consecrated the first fruits of your Apostles
by the blood of Saint James,
grant, we pray,
that your Church may be strengthened by his confession of faith
and constantly sustained by his protection.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
