The strange voice praying the Rosary

I will pray for you, because early in my own prayer life I had a lot of co-incidences that used to worry me wondering if and why and
made me uneasy, or that I’d be asked something that would be too hard for me, etc. I agree with those who said to put the voice out of your mind as much as you can. What you are doing, in your rosary group, is very much on track and a good thing, no matter how it came about. You can trust in God to have only your good in His heart for you.
Thank you!

What a terrible responsibility our confessors have!

St. John isn’t exactly easy. It’s good to be familiar with some St. Thomas Aquinas, as well as read an introduction to his (St. John’s) work first. That way you’ll know what you’re getting yourself into!

Fr. Thomas Dubay wrote a book called, “Fire Within: St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila and the Gospel-- on Prayer.” It is a good introduction to their writing, and will probably answer your question. However, it is only natural that the saint’s writing at the source is more powerful. I highly recommend picking up a book like Fr. Dubay’s, and then going on to St. John’s Ascent.

Don’t be embarrassed about not understanding it. The first time I picked up his work, I didn’t either. It wasn’t until I became familiar with some medieval philosophy, and read some more stuff for background (i.e., Fr. Dubay) that I was able to grasp him more clearly.

As a note, St. John’s own position is that the good of any spiritual gift is infused directly into the soul by the very thing itself, whether we will it or not. Hence, as you said… the good is already done, no need to cling on to it.

Like you said, guiding people is a terrible responsibility-- and it seems since you’ve taken my advice, you’ve put me in the self-same terrible predicament which you didn’t want to be caught in-- misguiding souls. Make sure always to follow the Church and the saints-- and you’ll be alright. Perhaps bring problems to a spiritual director/confessor. Definitely don’t take things just on my advice. God bless you.

I didn’t mean to put you into the same predicament guiding souls. I will take your advice but I will also pray and read. We are on this earth to help eachother after all, and each of us is responsible for our own souls. I understand this so I think you are safe with me. I personally am more worried about those persons who have had no religion and are now coming to pray the rosary. I think maybe there is a greater risk of misdirection with such people. They are still building thier foundation. Very scary.

I still must question though. Should we be afraid?
Wow! This is amazing! I couldn’t tell you what kind of entity that little girl is. A ghost? An angel? I don’t know. Maybe a benevolent spirit. But again, if she’s praying rosary, she’s got to be a good soul, no?
Could all of this be related?
Everything happens for a reason. I’d like to think that they’re related. It’s obvious that something good came out of this.

Maybe it was the soul of someone in purgatory, someone in your family. Perhaps it was a child you had that you didn’t know you had. The majority of conceptions are spontaneously aborted by the body without the mother ever even knowing she was pregnant. Perhaps it is your daughter.

Whoa, that’s a weird thought.

Blue Knight,

Where did you learn such information: “The majority of conceptions are spontaneously aborted by the body without the mother ever even knowing she was pregnant” ???

Just because your may have a fertilized egg, there can be problems with the embrio (genetic for example), with implantation, or a variety of other normal factors that may prevent a fertalized egg from being carried to term. Actually, I can’t remember the percentage, but a very high percentage of embrios or fetusus are aborted by the body without any knowledge of the mother and can be passed and confused with something like an abnormal period or an period that is more bloody then usual. Some times they come to the attention of women and they are called miscarriages.

By the way spontaneous abortion is a medical term and it is not what we as catholics worry about in terms of the abortion issue. It is a naturally occuring phenomenon in nature that happens frequently and is not caused by anything the mother is doing.

When we pray the Rosary we are praying a prayer of the Church and you can bet anytime you pick up your Rosary and pray it another Catholic somewhere in the world is praying it at exactly the same time and in sync with you and your son.

I think you were allowed to realise this by hearing that ‘voice’. and I believe this was to encourage you to pray the Rosary with others and to encourage others to pray. You told someone of this and hey, you are praying the Rosary with others! The grace was received and is producing fruit.

If we experience something from God it is very hard to forget it, it is also very hard to ignore it. St John does not teach to forget or ignore what a soul experiences, what he teaches is that the soul does not cling to or base their faith upon it. St John of the Cross is often misinterpreteted to mean that we should totally write off all spiritual experiences. I tell you if you experience something from God no matter how hard you try you will not be able to write it off or ignore it. In a way it is a way of discernment as when St John instructs not to cling to the experience, God will persist in bringing the experience to the soul again.

St John of the Cross did not teach himself prayer to the point of deep contemplation nor did he instruct himself on how to understand prayer so deeply. St John’s works are a result of God’s work in him and all of it is grace embraced by St John.

It’s helpful to think of that poor brother St John knew with the Rosary beads. That brother went about with those beads and loved them as much if not more than the prayers he said upon them. St John snatched them off him and did not return them to him. Now if that poor brother had owned those Rosary beads and thanked God for them, but refocused himself upon the prayers and whilst liked and was thankful he had the beads he did not love the beads but had a great love of God and the gift of faith God had given him, then this brother would not have found himself deprived of his beads. It is the same in spiritual matters, to guard against silly fascination with the mystical and not focusing on God, the soul is advised similarly not to cling to these experiences (it is to safeguard the faith of the soul and other souls -from deception- and to guard against poor spiritual paths). However if God does truly send a spiritual experience to someone trials will not be far away both spiritual and in other ways and the experience will have a good effect in the world as to what God desires in His will.

If you experience anything further, don’t put it about to people, just tell a Priest or a Religious Sister/Brother and no-one else. Afterall you don’t want people coming to pray with you just because they may ‘experience’ something, that would not be a good road to go down, I’m not saying that is why the people are praying with you, but I would safeguard them and yourself by only speaking with a Priest.

Now that you have an informal monthly Rosary group you may like to ask for your Parish Priest’s blessing and ask him how he would like to see it grow and develop. It is only right to involve your Parish Priest in this and ask for his involvement, support and guidance; if he would like to attend he can provide the much needed answers to questions people ask and you too will grow in your love and knowledge of the faith.

I will keep you and the Rosary group in the Living Prayer of my life that you bear much fruit.🙂

I had the same thought myself. You are right, many conceptions are spontaneously aborted before the mother realises she is pregnant.

No, if it was evil it wouldn’t stay long, especially while praying, which evil can’t stand.

About 3 years ago I got the aroma of Roses while saying it, it was a nice feeling to be honest, and it hasn’t been repeated since.

My friend had the experience of praying the Rosary and then noticing her own voice was praying in an Irish accent. She found out she had an Irish grandmother who she didn’t know about before (and who had died). She took it to mean 2 things: 1) that she should pray for her grandmother’s soul, and 2) that her grandmother was praying the Rosary with her, either from Heaven or Purgatory! 🙂

At around 11:00 pm on the Easter Vigil my husband and I heard what sounded like a choir singing outside in our back yard, but nothing was there. For a few seconds I was scared and thought it may be a tornado coming in the dark. It didn’t sound like anything I’d ever heard before. I rushed over to hubby and asked him if he heard that, and he said, “What, the singing? Yes, it sounds beautiful!” 🙂 We live half a mile away from our church, and their Easter Vigil Mass was just ending at that time. :harp: Just wanted to share!

Well, I’m not one to believe in ghosts either but this has happened to me as well, but I was grateful, since I was praying the Rosary alone. 😉 It sounded like a voice within or at least close by , but doubling my own. I took it for an Angel close by , so I welcome it 🙂 I had another experience when I started to visit the Blessed Sacrament regularly a few months ago. Well I would go in the church where the Sacrament would be and I would kneel, not long after that women would be crying. This happened three separate times ( at three different churches. The woman would be close by, always directly behind or next to me …not whimpering , more like loud crying… it was strange since noone approached them or even noticed them. I thought to approach them but since they were in the right place for crying and already praying, I thought there was nothing else I could offer except a charitable prayer and a God blessing under my breath and also because I didn’t want to distract them as they were intensely in focus towards God. My mother cries while she prays most of the time, so I didn’t think anything of it.

I also had visions of “lost souls in hell” while I’m alone in prayer at night asking me to pray for them…but I read that you’re not supposed to do that…right? Since you would be inviting them into your house? But it was probably my imagination? 🤷

I say there’s nothing wrong with the extra voice either as they are praying the Rosary though 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

Exactly. I hope my post wasn’t misleading, but it probably was. If God wants you to pay attention to something, he’ll force the issue. The idea is to be detached from it, and submissive to the Church.

St John of the Cross spends a lot of time on spiritual gifts, because, I think, he knows in practice that God will give them, and we should know how to deal with them.

I had a similar thought.

In any case - I’d recommend that the OP keep praying the rosary and let the protestant friends come to say it whenever they want. Hopefully they’ll come to the Church.

It could’ve been your imagination or something else. Either way, you shouldn’t pray for the lost souls in Hell who will be forever in Hell.

Such visions like your case can be very dangerous if one does not take it carefully and does not go by the teaching of the Church.

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut! Imagination or not, I didn’t feel right in praying for them anyhow. Actually they have to rely the Judge ultimately and as we know there are no appeals on cases that go to hell. It was a surreal experience, but I’ve put it out of mind the very next day.

The reason I mentioned about this is that I heard one case where some people, who are Catholic, were baptizing the dead who appeared to them asking for it.

Not to worry here, but thanks for watching my back.

I would be leary of anything that proclaims “lost souls in hell”. Make sure they aren’t in purgatory and something else says they are lost. Talk to a Priest about this. Tim
