I’m taking a class at my local Community College; Intro to the New Testament. I have to answer a question about the criteria used by the Christians to determine the New Testament. I start off talking about the Synod of Rome, because (from Catholic Answers) that’s where the earliest record of the New Testament Canon can be found.

With a little more research, however, I’ve found that some don’t accept the document attributed to the Synod, but I can’t find why. Do Catholics accept this, and Protestants don’t? If so, what are the arguements for and against?

Should I just stick with the Council of Carthage? That’s the earliest canon my textbook mentions.
