I’m really confused here.

Is that ‘Son of Pandira’ the same person as Jesus of Nazareth? I’ve seen some people think that they aren’t.
You’ll find arguments going both ways. But primarily, the modern rabbis that argued otherwise were doing so to avoid admitting that the Talmud has references to Jesus.

Valke, you haven’t answered my question about your father mentioning Christ in your household at all. You say he was a Catholic.
Sorry. My father is not religious, although the rest of his family is. My mother is also not religious so it is not as if I was raised in a Jewish household either. He never mentioned Jesus while I was growing up.

I’ve read the Jewish Tanach, which is made up of the Five books of Moses, the Prophets, and other writings. I study them on my own daily and with a rabbi weekly. I’ve read the Gospels in the Christian Bible.
I’d suggest you get a copy of ‘the complete Jewish bible’, written by Messianic Jews. It’s an interesting Bible translation.👍

I know my bible is complete when it ends with “Israel” ;). (the last word in the five books of Moses).

I want to remind folks of something here.

We are discussing Non-Catholic Religions here in the non-Catholic Religions forum.

If you are unable to have an intellectual and charitable discussion then I suggest you remove yourself from the discussion.

There is a certain amount of uncomfortable topics to be discussed. By their very nature non-Catholic relgions have aspects NOT IN COMMON with Catholicism. You needn’t get defensive of Catholicism just to discuss these other religions.

If you find yourself doing this, I suggest you take a breather.

I do not ask that everyone agree with what anyone is saying, I only ask that the discussion remain free from personal attacks, uncharitable comments and rudeness.

Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Please continue the discussion.

God Bless-

Rachel

thx Valke2 for the PM…indeed these were the things i read about Jesus’ death in Talmud.

Here’s what i found about Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection:

Jesus’ Crucifixion

“And it is tradition: On the eve of Passover they hung Jeshu [the Nazarene]. And the crier went forth before him forty days (saying), [Jeshu the Nazarene] goeth forth to be stoned, because he hath practiced magic and deceived and led Israel astray. Anyone who knoweth aught in his favor, let him come and declare concerning him. And they found naught in his favor. And they hung him on the eve of the Passover. Ulla said, ‘Would it be supposed that [Jeshu the Nazarene] a revolutionary, had aught in his favor?’ He was a deceiver and the Merciful (i.e. God) hath said (Deut. xiii 8), ‘Thou shalt not spare, neither shalt thou conceal him.’ But it was different with [Jeshu the Nazarene] for he was near the kingdom.’” (Sanhedrin 43a)

Jesus’ Resurrection

“And he took up his parable and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this! R. Simeon b. Lakish said: Woe unto him who maketh himself alive by the name of God. [a covert allusion to Jesus.]” (Sanhedrin 106a)

Jesus’ Deity
Author Michael Green quotes a rabbi named Eliezar, writing about AD 160, who writes:

“God saw that a man, son of a woman, was to come forward in the future, who would attempt to make himself God and lead the whole world astray. And if he says he is God he is a liar. And he will lead men astray, and say that he will depart and will return at the end of days.”

This thread, though it offended some, gives the Talmudic witness to Jesus that:

Jesus was crucified on the eve of Passover.
Jesus made himself alive by the name of God.
Jesus was a son of a woman.
Jesus claimed to be God
Jesus ascended and claimed that he would return again.
Jesus was near to the kingdom and near to kingship.
Jesus performed miracles, i.e. practiced “sorcery”.

15 million Jew believe Jesus was simply a liar, whereas we believe Him.🙂

I’ve been reading the thread, and I can’t understand why Saint Michael got upset at valke2. He was just telling us what the Talmud says. I expect remarks like the ones in the Talmud from unbelievers (I of course do not agree with them).

I found this thread quite enlightening, because one of my Jewish friends is an atheist who practices Scientology and holds to the theory that Jesus never existed.

I do have a question though, based on decades of knowing many Jewish friends some of whom do not practice the Jewish religion at all.

I’ve noticed that Jewish people can openly say they don’t believe in God or the Torah, or convert to Hinduism, or practice Scientology, or reject Judaism for New Age beliefs, or adopt atheistic Marxism, and their families are still close to them, associate with them, and love them. But GOD FORBID one of them comes to believe in JESUS !! Then, he or she is disowned by his family. What is it about Jesus Christ (as distinct from Hinduism, atheism, Marxism, New Age, etc) that will cause Jewish people to disown family members, yet accept and love their family members when they adopt just about any other non-Jewish belief ?? That puzzles me.

The Talmud is a satanic book, even worse than the Koran. At least the Koran acknowedges Mary was a Virgin and speaks of Lord Jesus in a respectable manner. The vile Talmud does no such thing.

No wonder the Medieval Church opposed the evil Talmud so much! The Talmud is a satanic lie that is an insult to God. It is even more offensive than Da Vinci Code. The spirit of satan is in the pages of the Talmud.

I don’t know how much of that is true and how much of that is stereotype. Meaning I don’t know how differently most jewish families would react if their child rejected judaism for atheism or jesus. A religious jewish family would have issues either way. But the truth is that Jews feel that they have suffered greatly at the hands of Christians over history. Also Judaism has suffered from what we view false messiahs.

Also atheists, Marxists and Hindus are not actively trying to convert us.
