The TC forum is the new Apologetics forum...

I’m not sure if there is an official or unofficial ban on challenging Church teaching in the Traditional Catholicism subforum here…the way that there’s one over at Liturgy and Sacraments. Is it really ok to debate apologetics in this subforum? If it’s ok, then is it appropriate? I’m just seeing a lot of threads of this nature recently and it’s kind of disconcerting. I know people who avoid the Apologetics subforum because they want to avoid debate; they come over to the TC area because it used to be a haven of sorts where you don’t feel like you’re constantly having to defend the faith against (mostly protestant) attacks.

Am I being unreasonable that this bothers me a little bit? (I’m open to the idea that I might be. It’s hard to have perspective sometimes when you’re thinking these things out loud in your own mind, to an audience of one…:o)
 
Yes AC, I have wondered the same thing lately with protestants posting in this subforum with nothing to do with Traditional Catholicism.🤷
 
Well, I think this forum is mostly concerned with talking about things of a decidedly traditional Catholic nature. These are important matters to discuss and so it is suitable to have a place to do so. That’s my opinion anyway.

I believe that’s what it is suppose to be, but haven’t you notice the recent posts of protestants that have nothing to do with traditional Catholicism?

Especially one young man says he is going to join the Church, & then pops up with criticising the Church?
 
If their is an opportunity to discuss Catholic teaching on another forum e.g. the apologetics forum then that is the place where it should be done.

If this is beginning to happen on the Traditional Catholicism forum then maybe the rules for the forum need to be revised.

When I started reading on this site, I, as a generally traditional person, went to this sub-forum thinking it was a discussion of traditional Catholic beliefs. Maybe it should be renamed, as the main discussions are fringe topics to the general seeker and the majority of Catholics in general. No offense to anyone in here–I’m just saying it took me awhile to understand that the subforum is for people who have issues with the implementation of Vatican II and wish to discuss their frustration with the modern Church with like-minded people. Or at least that’s how it appears.

Renaming it may clear up confusion for the seekers and new converts. I know the description of the subforums are listed, but I don’t think it accurately reflects this one. If you really feel Protestants and others not knowledgeable about the Catholic Church should not join the discussions, maybe you should suggest they put that in the description of the forum. I would have heeded the warning, because this subforum is as far from being a “haven” as the east is from the west. Frankly, I think it’s a little scary in here sometimes. But tonight I’m feeling brave.
 
It also attracts it’s fair share of people who come here to criticize the Latin Mass and tell us “we’re not required to believe in Our Lady Of Fatima” etc.
 
I don’t like to take a heavy hand with banning topics or telling people what they can or cannot post. That said, if someone notices a thread that appears to need moving, just use the bad-post report feature (the red-and-white triangle icon attached to each post) to flag the thread for my review. Thanks.
