You can already see all the information which you would like to see. It IS available and HAS been available. Go to the Catholic New Network and you can read up and learn before you jump to these conclusions. I have done so. I I have been a devout Catholic like you in search of the truth and I have found it! The fact is, the mainstream media will never report the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth because it does not jibe with their intent.

The information I have been able to find is from the USCCB. I do believe the latest rash of headlines involved incidents in Germany. Actually it is reported that a hotline for victims was recently opened there by the Church, so this seems to indicate there are still unresolved incidents. Remember we are part of a worldwide Church.

Not jumping to any conclusions except perhaps the obvious one: there are still things we don’t know about the child sex abuse scandal…

My point is : There IS and HAS been a frame work in place to deal with these problems “as they come up”. Why complain about the church when they ARE dealing with these issues so well?? That is what I fail to understand. No matter how much the Church does in terms of correction, there will always be naysayers who feel it is not enough! The Pope did address the latest scandal completely the day before Easter, yet the media only reports: “Pope fails to address the sex scandal issue in Easter Sunday service”. I am quite sure they never carried any good news stories at all.

With Catholics being uninformed, they sometimes jump on the wrong bandwagon and do us more harm than good. Not saying you are, neccessarily, but you continue to take the stance of criticism rather than pointing out any good points. Of course, there may be more cases that just come to light that go back a ways, however, the Catholic Church and Pope Benedict in particular (and dating back to his appointment to spearhead this issue in the early 90’s) have taken proper steps to address any and all issues as they become known. This is my Church, I am invested in it for better or for worse: good, bad, ugly, everything - because I believe the value of my faith is infinitely greater than the worst scandal. Who better to ask critical questions, someone bent on destroying it? Peace to you as well.

Yes, the Church’s reputation has suffered great harm, and ironically after forty year of trying to blend in with the rest of society. Recall that the American Church–bishops, priests and laity -had a calf after Pope Paul VI issued* Humanae Vitae*. The clergy would not defend it, and the laity repudiated its teachings. Vatican II represented a rebellion against Rome, a rebellion led by the most liberal priests in our society. There was a collapse in the morale of the clergy. Seminaries emptied out, priests abandoned their calling by the thousands. The new mass gave opportunity for a whole junking of the religious culture I and millions grew up in. Discipline collapsed and the child abuse is just a symptom of it. The constant fight to keep the faith slackened. Now we face the worst crisis since the Reformation.

I agree. When there was a repudiation of Paul VI’s encyclical Humane Vitae all across Church lines (laity, priests and bishops) this should have been a warning that a tidal wave was about to descend upon the Church, which it did.

But under John Paul II and Benedict XVI, the Church is slowly rediscovering its roots through the laity. Hopefully, 50 years from now, things will be better. The difference is, we are at the end of an age that everything is happening (maybe collapsing) upon us.

The “smear” is coming from Satan’s PR firm, the liberal press aka NY Times, Boston Globe,et al. They are definitely out to smear the Catholic church and fan the flames of ignorance of our separated brothers and sisters, many of whom have been taught a pack of outright lies from their earliest memories in whatever protestant faith they practice.

Of course, we who love and believe wholeheartedly everything that Jesus taught us and left with us to be fostered, loved and spread throughout the world through the Holy Catholic Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit are filled with pain and sorrow and wish for healing, peace and union among all Christians. I don’t know of a good practicing Catholic who is “smug”!

No one really* knows *at this late date WHY the police and district atty didn’t follow up on the Murphy case in Milwaukee. I suspect that the police, etc. were mainly Catholic—Milwaukee is a Catholic town, was then, still is— and they were in the pocket of the archdiocese who didn’t want Any Trouble. But we’ll never know unless someone uncovers some documents or some old folks who are willing to be interviewed.

Everyone is blaming the messenger–The Press, for digging this up. The blame should lie squarely on those involved, or not involved when they should have been, the archbishops, the cops, the district attorney, Bertone,…and Ratzinger. This was 1996-1998. Ratzinger moved against abuse in 2001, and in 2004 against Maciel, founder of the Legion of Christ–(he learned about it officially in 1997, finally acted in 2004).

The Boston Globe blew the whistle on Cardinal Bernard Law for a long time, while its articles were called “gossip”, “slander”, “unfounded”, etc. until it all came out. Law retired in disgrace, but was given a cushy post in Rome by JPII.

Don’t expect anyone to treat the RCC with kid gloves after all of this. And for those who think that there are tribulations now, there’s no evidence that this is going to die down anytime soon. It may be just beginning.

Do you have one shred of evidence for this, or is evidence, facts and due process unnecessary for you to convict people in your mind and slander them. This type of idle talk is exactly what Paul condemns. But maybe he was covering up something too.
