The one thing probably that can unsettle me is the sure knowledge of my own death and demise from this world with all opportunity spiritually and humanly complete and finished. It could happen and quite realistically speaking within the next 30 minutes (a span of time picked completely randomly of course to remind me of the ever present reality of death )…this knowledge to me is a real wake up call. In Advent we prepare for Christmas and the celebration and memorial of the First Coming of Christ, which will be in our hearts, a Second Coming of Christ which will be the preparation for His Final Coming in Glory as Divine King and Judge.

Truly, in life we are in death.

As for the third coming: it is very certain that it will come to pass, very uncertain when it will come to pass, since nothing is more certain than death, nothing more uncertain than the day of our death. “When people are saying, ‘Peace and security,’ then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labour pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape,” (1Thes 5,3).
