The title "Mar"

Hi
I see that saints and Bishops are commonly reffered to as “Mar” among the Syriac churches. I was wondering what the exact translation of that is.
 
I’m not 100% sure, but I believe it is the same as the title “Lord.”

Yes, the same word in maranatha “Our Lord come!” 1Cor16:22.

Btw, Maryo would be the term as applied to the Lord.

In Arabic, we call saints “mari” my Lord from the Aramaic.
 
Compare this with the honorific “Kyr” used for Bishops in the Byzantine tradtion (from “Kyrios,” obviously) or even the French “monseignieur”.
