I grew up in a Protestant household but never really understood the nature of God. I was never clear if God was Jesus or if they were two separate beings. In the LDS church I learned from them there is Heavenly Father, Jesus, and the Holey Ghost, three but united in purpose. The best example I heard was that they were three but made up one team.

What exactly is the Catholic Trinity? Is it anything like the LDS view? Is God Heavenly Father, Jesus, and the Holey Spirit three separate but united in purpose? How do Protestants view God compared to Catholics with regards to Trinity?

Tiki, one of the best books for you on the subject (and other basics of Catholicism) is Frank Sheed’s Theology for Beginners; the chapter on the the Most Holy Trinity and will help you see the great differences between Catholic and LDS theology. Most Protestant denominations (if they are orthodox) have the same theology as Catholics re the Trinity.
