Genesis 2: 7

then the LORD God formed the man* out of the dust of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
My old Bible uses the term “Second Story of Creation.”
When we look closely at Genesis 1: 27 –
"God created mankind in His image; in the image of God He created them;
male and female* He created them. – We can picture God molding Adam’s material anatomy and breathing into him the spiritual soul which brings about the true human person in the spiritual image of God. (CCC 364-365)
When we look closely at Adam being formed from the earth and his life from the breath of God, we have to be careful that we do not give God, man’s material image. God is always a transcendent Pure Spirit without material restrictions. We have the amazing gift of being a spiritual creature.
(CCC 396 & CCC 1730)
We do not need to get hung up about a “Second Story of Creation”. We can find a comfortable spot and go deep into both Genesis 1: 27 and Genesis 2: 7. Putting the two together can be amazing.
