A New American Quran?
Evangelical Christian group writes book challenging the Quran

During 2004 and 2005, allegations in several countries claimed that the United States was trying to impose a “new American Quran” on Muslims.

[These claims are false. A small, private evangelical Christian group in the United States has written a book called The True Furqan (http://usinfo.state.gov/media/Archive/2005/Apr/21-987519.html), which seeks to convert Muslims to Christianity, but this group has no connection with the U.S. government. Furqan is another term for Quran.
The Allegations
[Shaykh Ikrimah Sabri, the preacher of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque and Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, inaccurately claimed the United States is “forcing Muslims to renounce the Quran and adopt the book Al Furqan al-Haqq (http://usinfo.state.gov/media/Archive/2005/Apr/21-987519.html) (The True Quran),” according to a July 2, 2004 Internet report by the Palestinian Information Center.
[Mustafa Bakri, editor of Egypt’s sensationalist, anti-U.S. Al-Usbu (http://usinfo.state.gov/media/Archive/2005/Apr/21-987519.html) newspaper, made other false claims in the newspaper’s December 6, 2004 edition:

What do non-Muslims think of this ploy by the American evangelists responsible for this deceptive book? It is right to deceive Muslims into embracing Christianity?

i do not see how any Muslim can be deceived by this book. Any Muslim with basic Islamic doctrine will know it is not the Quran, neither from its name, nor introduction nor content. If a muslim, however, decides to read the book despite all this, it is his own choice.

Maybe this book was written in an attempt to meet the challenge posed by Muhammad to “bring a sura like it” but the question is, who is the judge?

Books like this I think are aimed at converts and those just learning to read (like many immagrants) give “an actual copy of the Qur’an (That is the fake one)” to someone just learning to read or someone just converting to Islam and pristo potential tricked convert.

Funny, will they acknowledge that Muhammed is messenger of God!

I can see your points, but the underlying question remains, should such a deceptive ploy even be encouraged? Christ is the Truth, Way and Life. Surely any righteous Christian would object to the authors true intentions? This book was created to deceive, if not mock Islam. I do not agree with many of Islam’s teachings, but i am not about to play the same games they play.

Another good point. Yet, i fail to see why the authors of the book have to rely to such under-handed tactics. Why not rightly give a copy of an actual bible instead of giving them something that looks like a Mormon bible?

The prophet of Arabia challenged the entire world to compose a book equal to the Quran. We accepted the challenge as stated in Surah 17:88. The outcome is The True Furqan. Our second purpose is to present the Good News of Jesus the Christ to our fellow Arabs in the prose and poetic style of the classical language of the Arabic Quran.

If this were the reason, to meet Muhammad’s challenge by speaking about Jesus, i do not consider it a ploy of deceit. However it could easily turn into a deceitful act, depending on how it is used.

Now that you mentioned Surah 17:88, it has become clearer to me. So what do our Muslim friends think of this challenge then?

the answer to your question reflects the utterly subjective challenge presented in the Quran, which can only reflect a human mind behind it.

In light of the Sura brought forth by its writers, a non-deceptive reasoning can be claimed, but I still do not support it. It seems much more likely to cause confusion and offense than anything else. If someone tried to hand me something that was written in a style imitative of the Holy Bible but contained different contents (e.g., The Book of Mormon), I would not accept it.

Evangelicals are funny people. I can see what they are hoping to accomplish, but I do not think they will be successful, and this will probably fuel more “see, the Americans are out to destroy Islam” (as if America and Christianity are the same thing, but I digress…), which is not good at all. I wish the evangelicals would understand that THE TRUTH is its own salesperson, and God brings it before those willing to receive it, so ideas like this one are valiant, but ultimately misguided. Oh well. 😊

The challenge is for mere humans to produce a book containing the spiritual power found in the Qur’an. Call me crazy, but I don’t see such spiritual power in the aforementioned evangelical publication.

In my country , Christians publish their holy book by using the words Allah , Hazrat & many others words those are used normally by Muslims only. It could be to reach Muslims by giving Bible an Islamic touch or God knows what’s in their mind.

I find it amazing that Quran can be memorised by even non-Arab Muslims . They don’t understand the language , they just know how to recite it & they have the full Quran in memory. Is there any other holy book that has more than six thousands verses & followers can recite it from memory ?

Ugh…not this again! I once had a friend that memorized Pi to something like 15,000 places (I can’t remember the exact number, but it was many thousand places). Does this prove the “holiness” of Pi? Of course not! The fact that humans can memorize an astounding amount of information (religious and secular) says more about the individual’s commitment to the material than the source of the material itself.

That is an incredibly poor argument, if it can even be called an argument to begin with.

Well I have seen these kind of tactics used very often. With the apologetics aimed at New Agers and NeoPagans for example there is no end to people that claimed to be sacrificing humans and deep into the Wicca, Witchcraft, Druidry and so forth.

Yet not only are they not in jail for there crimes BUT it is obvious from talking to them that they do not know basic 101 material.

There are also Ex-Buddhist that constantly rip into Buddhism but when you read there material it is obvious they know nothing of Buddhism.

I agree that this hurts us all in the long run as at the end of the day it just means people will not associate with a religion that has to use lies to gain converts.

You try memorizing an entire book in a Forign language and rehashing it from memory pronounced perfectly.

However this is also true of Buddhist. The Sutras where all memorized before being written down.

I have done this before in the past. It didn’t prove anything then, it doesn’t now. Anna Akhmatova writes beautiful prose, but that’s about it. 🤷

he did that in a language he does not understand ? Quran is memorised by millions . Youngest one I know is an Iranian boy , 5 years old only.

Is there any single Christian who has his/her holy Bible in memory ?

If they are memorizing something by route, I don’t see what difference it makes what language it’s in. I’m memorizing a lot of Arabic right now that I don’t yet really understand…maybe my textbook is holy! It is in Arabic, after all…Allah’s prefered language…

I don’t know if there are any Christians who have the whole Bible memorized. If there are (and I wouldn’t be suprised if there are, somewhere), that wouldn’t prove anything aside from their dedication to memorizing it.

I read that not even a single Pope ever had Bible in memory .
