After his death on the cross, Christ ascended into heaven, after appearing for 40 days then to his followers and teaching them (see Acts 1:1-12). This traditionally important Catholic feast day celebrating his ascension into heaven has occurred customarily on a thursday (which occurs this year on thursday, May 25); in some places in the world the local bishops have moved this feast to the following sunday (which occurs this year on sunday, May 28).
