I couldn’t agree more, and that’s where we’re headed.Well-stated!
Once upon a time, Christians fought to defend their faith, literally as well as figuratively. Today, Christians rely on secular states to defend our rights for us, and we can see what a botched job secular states are doing.
Religious know they have something important and transcendent to defend if they must go to war to protect the Faith. Secular states, ultimately, are concerned with shoring up their careers as politicians; without a transcendent truth to struggle for, they only see the temporal world and use temporal justifications to convince aggressors that they must change their minds. Clearly, a losing strategy.
As much as I hate to say it, the best thing that Christendom can have happen to it (save an immediate spiritual renewal) is for secularism to fail utterly and for Christians to have to fend for ourselves. Then, the band-aid will be finally torn off and a turnaround can happen. But the crutches of dependency on secular protection must break, as no civilization is ever healed without a great upheaval first.
