The Truth about the Eucharist

It’s a common theme among the Jack Chick types and other evangelicals.
I remember how scandalized I was when I saw my first Jack Chick pamphlet. I remember thinking that, even if I disagreed with how someone else understood their faith, I would not slander them and mock them in that way. But that was also the first time I ever saw Catholics accused of idolatry with regard to the Eucharist. I remember thinking “don’t they understand that it is Jesus?”

No, they don’t, and from that point of view, of course it would be idolatry!

I’ve got a presybyterian friend who was horrified when I told him I was converting to Catholicism. Said the same things, idolaters, that Catholicism is really a Babylonian cult and all kinds of other outrageous claims. There was a Scottish presybyter that wrote a really anti-catholic book about it. Alexander Hisop “The Two Babylons”

I was appalled when I encountered Alexander Hisop too! It took me a long time to realize that cults are more often defined by who/what they hate, and it is the common “enemy” that binds them together.

I was also very surprised when I got deep into my geneology and learned that I come from a very long line of rabid anti-Catholic Presbyterians/Congregationalists.

My dads parents are probably rolling in their graves over me become a Papist 😬
