Is anyone familiar with Focus on the Family’s “The Truth Project”? My wife (who is a non-denominational Christian) just received information regarding the project and before she presents it to me, I’d like to know what it’s all about.

Thanks and God Bless,

I participated in this last spring with a somewhat diverse group. I was the only practicing Catholic in the group with the others being primarily evangelical baptists though there was one church of Christ and a few who considered themselves non-denominational.

To be brief, I felt that this was only somewhat worthwhile. There were some good points/issues discussed. However, one should be informed or one may be misled with this.

Here is a website I used that I found helpful for some guidance and that points out some errors in the presentation:

thetruthproblem.info/index.html

Additionally, you can go to this site below for each of the lessons to read ahead of time; the slides on this document are exactly what is seen on the video each session though he does add commentary:

If you simply change the number after the ‘lesson’ in this website, you can get all 12 lessons.

Example:
pvsmallgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/lesson1_participant_complete.pdf

changed to

pvsmallgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/lesson2_participant_complete.pdf

My overall opinion of it – he seems to stay away from going into any depth that would lead to various Christian faiths getting into a debate about his comments. So it seemed to me at least that he presented topics to the point of keeping the discussions acceptable to most Christians. BUT this really takes away from the point of finding the truth doesn’t it? Because there is only one truth, not 40,000+ truths but this idea is somewhat avoided.

The very first topic is what is truth? I thought that this would be an interesting topic, but he avoids delving into the truth deeply beyond comparing theism and atheism for the most part. I felt that he was more or less saying that truth was important when it came to one’s belief in God or lack thereof, but beyond that, the details of ‘truth’ did not matter (well, at least that is what it seems because he does not address hardly any of the issues where various Christian groups may disagree when it comes to the truth).

There are some good points that are made in this though. He discusses how God is falling to the wayside of many people these days and how that is leading to much of the chaos in the world. He emphasizing putting God back in the rightful place which is first in our lives. He has a good segment in one session that gives quotes from many of the United States founding fathers showing the importance of God in their lives.

If one does attend, I would just be as informed as you can be because not everything is completely accurate but the above sites should help you as they did help me.

This is just my opinion though and as I said it has been over a year since I did it so my recollection of it has faded some.
But the above sites are definitely worth reviewing.
