The Tudors and The Borgias - AntiCatholic?

Actually the funny thing is that it was a combination of the Tudors and a Mother Angelica episode that brought me back to the Church. lol I was watching the Tudors and was getting so angry at Henry the VIII’s treatment of the Catholic faith.

OMG Yes! The Tudors was the spark that got me a little bit interested in the Catholic Church. I would say it was more pro-catholic than anything.

Catherine of Aragon and Princess Mary were definitely the protagonists and King Henry who spurned Catholic teaching so he could Marry Anne Boleyn.
 
I loved the costuming and everything of “The Tudors” (and I liked comparing the characters to other movies like “A Man for All Seasons” and “The Other Boleyn Girl”) but there was just too much sex and nudity to make it justifiable in any way. I’m sure “The Borgias” will be the same way. It’s what we call “Showtime Porn” – it’s not marketed as pornography but every episode has topless shots and plenty of sex. It may be pretty and historical, but in the end, it’s just filth.
 
It is not that the Tudors series is anti Catholic it is just showing how the break with Rome came about. In other words it is showing something that took place in history
 
The Tudors presents a surprisingly balanced view of Catholicism, with excellent portrayals of Catholics like Katherine of Aragon and St. Thomas More. It does not shy away from problems in the Catholic Church at the time, but neither does it shy away from the problems of Henry VIII and the Protestants.

If you like “The Tudors”, but not all the nudity, you can watch the “PG” version of it with the sex scenes edited on BBC America!

Interesting. I hadn’t heard that! That’s kind of like how they blanked out some vulgarities in “The King’s Speech” and moved it from “R” to “PG-13” so they could re-release it as “family-friendly” and make some more money.

I don’t have cable. If it’s available on TV-on-DVD (esp. via Netflix), I might watch it.
