I watched the whole season last year, and watched the first episode of season 2 last night.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s on Showtime. It’s rather racy and not for any impressionable children!!!

I’ve always been interested in History, and while this production can hardly be called absolutely factual, I’m enjoying it nonetheless.

What I find interesting is how Henry VIII came to the conclusions he came to. Even without the lust he had for Anne Bolelyn, he had some pretty radical ideas about the Pope and his (Henry’s) own importance in the grand scheme of things.

Has anyone watched it and what did you think?

it changes a lot of historical facts to get a more compressed timeline and better audience appeal BUT it does do a good job of portraying H8’s passionate self importance. he was very good at rationalizing anything that would make him the center of attention. he wanted a war, he wanted a son, whatever it took. he wanted to be an important religious figure.

As a non-Christian, I always felt the Anglican church was the one church that had no truly spiritual reason for existence. At least Luther had valid complaints (even though his intent was not to form a new church.)

I have a friend who is a funeral director, and she has a wry sense of humor. When we first met, I asked her what religion she belonged to, and she replied, “The Church of Adultery”! At first I thought she meant she was in some sort of swinger’s church (?!) but then it dawned on me what she meant.

I have been watching it. I like it ok, it gets a little too soap opera sometimes.

I do genealogy as a hobby, St. Thomas More is my great-grandfatherX12. So I watch the portrayal of him with interest. Ann Boleyn is too smug for her own good. And her father is just plain evil.

I do like the portrayal of Pope Paul III by Peter O’Toole. And Sam Neill as Cardinal Wolsey…a very excellent portrayal of greed and too late, remorse…as Wolsey said, in real life, that he had served the King more diligently than he had served God.

Yes, the remorse by Cardinal Wolsey was so beautiful. That’s just how I felt when I came to Christ.

Thomas More is my favorite character so far… what more do you know about him Rebecca?

I don’t know all that much about any Catholic saints. A friend gave me a book recently about St. Francis of Assisi. It is the first I have read anything about him, at all.
