You could try asking him where the mathematics and physical laws he uses in his “proofs” come from? Why do they exist?

Whenever X comes up, ask “But why does X exist?” It may prove fruitful.
He is likely to reply “Why does God exist?”, so you will need to prepare an answer to that question before you start.

I am also a physicist. I truly wonder what mathematical proofs he comes up with to try and disprove a Creator or a God. I really think that he’s getting physics and science messed up with metaphysics. Science does not prove there is no God, nor does it prove there is a God. In my opinion there’s plenty of evidence of God from science, but there isn’t proof one way or another.

I would recommend the book, God, Chance and Necessity by Keith Ward. It’s quite a difficult read, but blows people like Richard Dawkins well out of the water.
There’s conflicting evidence.
The evidence against biblical literalism is overwhelming. What a lot of people don’t realise is that St Augustine thoguht the same back in the fifth century. Literalism hasn’t been mainstream Christianity since at least then.

However we do have to ask why, now we know so much more about the world than we did in St Augustine’s time, we haven’t found any phenomena which can be unambiguously identified as of divine origin. That’s quite a powerful arguement for atheism.

However you can argue the same thing the other way. Given that we know so much, and so many myths and superstions have fallen by the wayside, why can’t atheists deleiver the killer blow to Christianity? Dawkins mentions the possibility of doing a DNA test on Jesus. A match with St Joseph would be fatal to the idea of the virgin birth. It is not that Christianity only makes propositions which are unfalsifiable. However, as it happens, there is no material to test.
