If anyone wonders why healthcare is so expensive, occupational licensing restrictions play a significant role in driving up costs. That is one of the problems with regulation, regulation often works to reduce competition rather than protect consumers. Consumers get fleeced with the help of the government.

This is interesting. I used to work for the ADA. They have some very talented people working in their labs and often get their way. Its not like they deal with life or death issues.

My friend worked as an actuary in some company that provided dental coverage. He said stats prove that dental care costs have SPIRALED since the advent of dental health insurance with what he says the average cost of braces is like 7 grand. He said Dentists are required to have so much college training that they need the high costs to provide care to help pay for their education costs.

I have no link just that I know most people without group dental insurance through an employer just skip out on dental treatment given the expense.

I have no clue what the answer is nor do I claim to be an expert so I look forward to hearing the (name removed by moderator)ut of others.

The article reminds me of an earlier UK article I read. It was said in an effort to help lower dental costs in the country.

This problem is often missing in discussions of income inequality. It is one thing if someone has a high income because they offer a good or service that people are willing to pay for. On the other hand, there is nothing morally praiseworthy about people who conspire with the government to restrict competition in order to boost their incomes. Crony capitalism at its finest.
