We all know that intent or “mentality” has nothing to do with the morality of NFP vs. Contraception, so why do people continuously bring it up?

Because in Humanae Vitae Pope Paul explicitly stated that ABC is inherently immoral. For people who believe that he was talking infallibly, this is a hard thing to ignore. For those who believe that he was not talking infallibly, he was wrong in this and several other items in the Encyclical.
